we are pulling our cdr's tuesday evening and I'm looking for the hrs that I need, we moved to a new property and our handling barn is not up yet so we have to trank 14 does . what kind of time frame do I have our guy says he will be here friday morning.I just worried that are we going to be of on the hrs if a few of the does had a problem being tranked and a couple of straws are going to be split . Also how long can I keep a doe tranked so I can keep some kind ot time schedule.

Thanks Ed

we use Folligon 0.8 cc for older does, 1.0cc for yearlings use a 1" needle to put it deep into muscle

For the answer to your question it will all very from AI tech to AI tech. Some will say 56-59 others say 53-55 and others say 56-61 hours. I just had a very long conversation with Dr. Pue (Sp) at Wayne Scotts and he said the optimal hour is 53-54 hours for them. They hate to go over 56 hours. Again he said each person or AI tech is different but I believe Dr. Stuart is who he works for, and he said Dr. Stuart wants 53-54 to be optimal. He said after that it goes down considerably. Dr. Stuart had a 84% success rate in 2009 in all of the Ai work he did. I am not saying anyone is right or wrong, just the conversation from a very well qualified Vet AI tech. Look up some of Dr. Pue (Sp) work and studies. He is very knowledgable and has been studing deer for 30 years and was the head of the Cervid dept. at Auburn University for 30 years and also one of the founding authors of Telazol use in the United States. Another point I would like to start is that he said they reverse deer as soon as possible after LAP AI is finished , and he does not know where the 80- hr reversal time came from and that no one should wait to reverse a deer. That may be a post for another topic though. I just found that to be quite interesting.

well, should be very specif with the time.. to respect those parameters,

the best is take a note,, then we'll see the results next summer good luck to all!!

thanks for the replys we average at 59 hrs on most, one was a little late on pulling but she was done at 57 hrs. This stress will not be there next year we will have our handling barn done.

thanks Ed

Well we pulled the CIDR's today on our Rocky Mountain Goats for AI on Monday at 59 hours. As far as I know I'm the only person to collect semen from Rocky Mountain goats and do AI on them.

I only AI'd my goats one other time just to see if I could. We did eleven and nine took from AI. The reason I did it this year is my goat I used from last year produced no babies. He is on his way to the harvest ranch. My other male goats are only one year old and they seem to never be able to dominate females and breed them till they are two years old.

I collected this semen from hunted goats so I could increase the genetic pool of my goats. I think only about five people in the USA produce these animals. At one time I had about fifty goats. These goats carry their babies about 186 to 190 days. The normal breeding time is November 20 to 30 with a birth sometime the end of May.
