Red deer fawn with open abscess on both sides in front of hind legs and tumor on underside. Its been 5 weeks and has not got better.

I have administered LA 300 at 3ml 3 times. Several DVMs have looked at with all stating they have never seen anything like it. I will try and post pics or will email. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

we had to put him down at dvm's recamendation.we sent biopsy to TEXAS VETERINARY MEDICAL DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY . DIAGNOSIS: DERMATITIS/PANNICULITIS,PYOGRANULOMATOUS,FOCAL WITH LESIONAL HYPHAE. HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN THIS IN A DEER?

no but i saw it on someone who had gotten bitten by a brown recluse spider.......that is so sad

Panniculitis-like suggests a cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.

PYOGRANULOMATOUS: an inflammatory process in which there is infiltration of polymorphonuclear cells into a more chronic area of inflammation characterized by mononuclear cells, macrophages, lymphocytes and possibly plasma cells.

A hypha is a long, branching filamentous structure of a fungus, and also of unrelated Actinobacteria. In most fungi, hyphae are the main mode of vegetative growth, and are collectively called a mycelium; yeasts are unicellular fungi that do not grow as hyphae/ Lesions containing hypha are common in aquatic animals and some reptiles.

So if I read the diagnosis correctly, It was a fungal infection that matasticized. Is that what your take on the diagnosis is?

Poor thing, I am sorry to hear that you had to put the fawn down. So, if Scott is right (99.9% of the time he is :), hi Scott!) should he have been put down?
