Not sure how to spell....as a few ppl on here have spelled it differently, but as mentioned in previous posts, I set up a new relationship with a different vet today, but they say that it is illegal to give me rompun or ketamine. What this basically means is that I have to pay hundreds of dollars each time I need to tranq etc.....because it is legal of course, if they come out and watch me dart the deer. I said that it wasn't economically possible to do that and they said that I could try to buy some elsewhere. Any ideas fellas??

Thanks

ketamine and telazol are both controlled substances. Rompun is not. At least here in the US. I would not think it is in Canada.

Derek,

Build yourself a good facility. The deer-handler came out of Canada. Most do not tranq. much, though it is helpful in some cases.

I have a great catch building and actually caught her again tonight and treated her. I am definitely going to build a good handling facility also. I'm a builder by trade...so that'll be fun to build. I think Tranquilizing is part of deer farming though and would like to sort it all out before its a panic and last minute, when the situation does arise. I may get away with not sedating this fawn, but I was told that if it doesn't start to clear up, I will need to sedate her to soak the hoof etc.

Thanks

I'd like to know more about the history of the design of this deer handler & the system.

How is the Canadian one different in design to the drop floor system used throughout the rest of the world?

Cheers Sharkey

Are most using drop floors instead of hydraulic crushes for whitetail ?

What about the folks cutting velvet off elk,are they using hydraulic crushes ?

Cheers Sharkey

Sharkey,

Yes, drop floors are the norm for whitetails, while hydraulic crushes are still used for velvet work. There used to be some guys in my area cutting velvet, but none of them still do. I think they got out of it when the market dropped a number of years ago.

Derek I have always been able to get ketamine and telazol or Rompun and telazol from my vet the hitch is they can only sell it to you by the dose for a specific animal makes it kind of expensive to break vials and mix each time but they can't sell you bulk amounts to keep at your farm.....legally...I'm sayin...
