Alot of you may have seen one of these traps before. I had just seen one while at a fellow deer farmers place and decided to build one. Its 4'x4' x5' tall.

I used 4 rolls of 1/2" x1/2" mesh about 50 bucks to build. Ive had it out about 3 days and already have about 20 sparrows in it. I plan on putting a tarp over it and pipping the exhaust into it and sending the little buggers to sparrow hell.:D:D:D

I think if you breaded them and had a mini turkey fryer they would be like hot pockets.....:D:eek::eek::D
 
The gap is about 2 1/2". Also a couple of days before I set the trap I placed bird seed on the ground to get them started eating there.

PETA may not appreciate it,but the blue birds,tree swallows and purple martins will.

Spiderman I can package them all up and send em to you. Ready for fryin.
 
Thanks Er. We will be building one this weekend. We have about 100 of those little peckers hanging around the deer feeders stealing oats and leaving us their recycled grain all over. As far as peta goes I will ofcourse take them to the county line and release them into their new home. Actually I beleive that sparrows are considered a nuisance species and are not regulated. Rick
 
Your right as far as them being listed as nuisenance. It is legal to kill them. But I wouldn't take them any where and release them, they will beat you home.
 
Hey.... I live on county line make sure you deer farmers close to me don't take his advise:D ...Has anyone perfected one for chipmunks?
 
IT SHOULD BE NOTED that House Sparrows (Passer domesticus) and European Starlings are NOT native to the United States and are the only birds NOT protected by law in this country. Both of these birds were introduced and are known to cause problems with our native species.

The little blue blocks at tractor supply works well for chipmunks. They love dragging em off and eating them later. :eek:
 
Use a small live trap with feed for bait. Then you can decide... catch and release or BB gun. Should be available at Tractor Supply.
 
I just trapped one today. They trap very easy in a small live trap. Put some bird seed mix in the trap and you will catch them left and right.
 
Hey Buckskin, how do you think you got 100 sparrows and I dont have any? I already shipped all mine over your way!!!! By the way, the *****, skunks and possums are on their way to your place also!!!
 
We built one sunday and we get excited everytime we go out to check it. When we walk around the corner, 20+ birds take off flying from our deer feeders and there isnt a single bird in the cage. We only raise smart animals around here. Why would you fly in a trap if you could get the same food out in the open and you have 6 different locations to eat from. The birds are plump and healthy at least.
 
TRO-good point. I added one of these traps to my long to-do list until you gave your two cents-the birds are free to eat out of all our pens, why would they want to do it inside a cage? Still looked like a great idea, though. I wonder if the trap will catch any other type of bird? I also fight blackbirds and doves. All kidding aside, doves could easily go onto the grill, if you know what I mean. We have those monsterous Argentinian doves with the black ring around their neck. I think they arrived the day I put up my deer pens back in 2004. On the ***** and possums, I think I've gotten 12 of them so far this year. They were relocated, just not breathing. :)

I built a trap similar to this and it has a 1 3/4" opening. I have got starlings to go in it, but they get back out. I don't know why they get out on me when I have a smaller opening then what you do. Any thoughts?
