Splitting Straws 3 ways???

We just pulled CIDRs this morning and we plan to LAP AI on Friday night. We are AI ing 5 yearling does... we have a really good straw that we would like to put in as many does as possible... So my question is... Is is safe (if our AI vets say the straw in good or exellent quality) to split it 3 ways? We will split it twice for sure. But would like to split it 3 ways.

What are your thoughts?

Dillan....we are probably using the same AI techs as you and have lined up all our does for the straws being split into 3 does. I have a back up plan..."just in case", but I'm sure that if the semen is of excellent quality there shouldn't be a problem. I will also be waiting to hear from others on their opinion.

I split my best straw last year three ways and used on my best three does and all three does took, two with twins and one with quads. All 8 fawns big and healthy. It don't get better than this.

Depends on the semen and the cross! I would never split 3 ways just for the sake of A/I

If it was NOT a cross I really wanted to make...........Just my opinion

Sounds like people have had sucess with it. We will examine the straw and make our decision then. It is a cross that we really would love to have fawns out of!

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Thanks again everyone! When we AI'd we looked at the straws and they were good! So we did split the straws three ways. Now we just have to wait...

Dillan,

How did you do on your conception rate? Did all three does take?

I would like to split some of our straws 3 ways, but I want some opinions.
