I have a buck that has been doing something that I have never seen or heard of before, and I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this behavior. What he does is take a deep breath then slowly pushes the air out his semi closed nostrils, making a sound like some one letting the air out of a balloon. I have witnessed him do this several time, Actually, I believe he is doing it at me, something like he is announcing that he is coming after me. Similar to scraping the ground. Any insight will be appreciated.

Thanks for the responses, I figured that was what it was I just wanted to make sure.

It is one of the coolest sounds they make. I love hearing it, as long as I am not in that pen with them.

I agree with you Brad! 400 club had a buck this fall that would snort wheeze, low growl and side step walk up and down the fence when I would stop. You always kept an eye on him! Pretty cool to see from the right side of the fence!! Charlie

i had one that would do the same thing.  at feeding time it was not funny.  He got so mean, i had to barbeque him.  It was not just during the rut but anytime he saw you coming.
