How do you get the smell out of sheds? I was given a set of sheds this past weekend that really smell bad. I have them currently hanging in my shed but would like to get them scored and maybe mountyed but not with that oder. I thought I should pour baking soda on them but I wanted to ask the experts on here first.

Mostly the smell comes from the burr or base of the antler it seems to me. I have found sheds from wild deer that just reeked terrible as they were more than a year old. I washed them and rinsed them in bleach water and applied straight bleach to the contact part of the burr and let it soak in.....most of the smell left in a short time. Jim

taxidermists use formaldehyde and soak the antlers in it this dries the antlers out and dry = no smell. this even works with velvet.
