Have a buck fawn, mother cleaned it but would not let it nurse. Pulled the fawn after 5 hours of watching and fed it colostrum. Continued to feed colostrum for the first three days and the fawn seemed to be doing fine. Introduced a bit of milk replacer to the colostrum on day four and the fawn seemed to love it. He increased his intake from 1-1.5 teaspoons every hour and a half to a 1 to 1.5 tablespoons every 2.5 to 3 hours. Was active, playing, following me around, etc. 12 hours after started introducing milk replacer, about time for his next feeding, was talking then suddenly screamed and had a massive sezure, legs thrashing, head flung back along spine. Following this his extremities went cold (legs, tail, chin). He passed away three hours after the event. Do not know what went wrong. Am feeding the exact same type of colostrum and milk replacer thet I've used for the last two years with great success. Did note that this fawn seems to have a very rounded head, high forehead. Any ideas are welcome, would prefer not to lose another one like this.
