Swelling under R eye

:( Well, Happy belated Thanksgiving to everyone! Hope it was a blessed one for you.

My little Nina seems to have a little problem. Yesterday she was eating/chewing without any problems. This morning she seems a little quiet. I tried to give her a cookie and she turned her head to the side and is having trouble chewing. What would take normally 10 seconds to chew 3 cookies - it's taking almost a minute to chew 1. She shakes her head a little and turns her head sideways. Bless her heart. I also noticed some swelling under her eye on the right side of her face. I would not think it would be impaction since the swelling is under her eye and not her jaw. She is also closing her R eye a little and it seems sore to the touch. I gave her some baby aspirin. I'm not sure if she hit her head on something or if her and Faline got into a scuffle. Nina is always the one who comes out injured in those fights. She can be very flighty at times - when she was a fawn she got spooked and tried to jump through a window in my kitchen! Scared me to death!! Anyway any ideas would be appreciated. I posted a couple of pics - hope it helps....hope someone can help..

Thanks,

Gail

There is a probiotic called Revive that might help. Sounds like it might be an infection. Revive does improve the immune system to fight infections. In blood work done on horses this probiotic has lowered the white blood cell count in the blood which is infection. The probiotic also produces B vitiamins which will make the deer feel better and get her back to eating. For more info on Revive go to deertrader.com or call me. 330-601-2142

Hey Girl , I`m just guessing here but i would say that she either hit the fence or got whacked by her sister !! lol If you have any banimine give here that a day or two and that should help with the inflamation !!! Hope that helps a bit !!! She should be fine !!!

I'm with Mitch. Looks like she bumped herself. I know what that is like since I seem to crack my head on something every other day:(

Gail,

Im sure you have looked, but I will tell you anyway.....check to see if she has either an impaction in her jaw or a piece of debris caught in between cheek and gum. I too think it is trauma related, but as tame as your girls are, you have the luxury of being able to do a thourough exam.

Revive is not availible at TSC. But if you give me a call I will send you some. I am a distributor for the product. I have alot of deer farmers using the Revive product and are very happy with the product. One of the farmers using it is Eddie Ray Borkholder and he is very happy with the product and cant believe how well Revive improves the immune system and puts weight on the animals. My # is 330-601-2142

Gail I agree with Scott looks more like an impaction. We have had the same thing in our deer before and used an antibiotic and banimine to help with the healing process. She will be fine good luck.

We also use Revive in our feed on our deer. We have seen a great improvement in weight gain, all around health improvement. We are very pleased with Revive.

Hi all and thanks for the replys.

Mitch, it's been forever since we've chatted! Hope you're doing well :)

The swelling has gone down quite a bit and she is eating better! I also agree that she has either hit the fence or got whacked by her sister. They were chasing each other around today...sigh....... Nina actually tried to hit Faline with her front legs, I was proud of her, she is usually the recipient.

Scott, even though they are tame - they do NOT like me prying open their mouths. I can stick my finger in their mouths for a second or two - then they start swinging their heads around. I have battled with Faline quite a few times when she has come inside and somehow found things she has no business with! Sharp teeth!! lol :D

I will continue to keep an eye on her to make sure she continues to heal.

Thank you all!! God Bless!

Gail
