THE PLAN

Fellow deer farmers.

Most of you by now are wondering what the plan is to get move hunters so we can harvest more bucks and promote breeding to a new level.

The SPACIFIC GOAL or vision encompasses advertising for more hunters to the hunting ranch’s. WHY: To harvest the shooter bucks produced by the breeders. For years breeders have been marketing their breeding stock. Now is the time to market their shooter bucks. Just as dairy farmers market their milk. The specific goal is to bring down the wall or stigma of canned hunts. HOW: To advertise the experience and advantages of high fenced hunting. Note: the focus must be on the hunting experience and not the hunting ranch. Sell potential hunters on the benefits of high fenced hunting, they will find the ranch’s. What are the benefits, No licenses, guaranteed hunt, great values, good selection, close proximity ect.

What is the plan?

Concerning a plan, we do have a plan and are prepared to move forward. But the reason we have not given you our plan is because this is all of OUR industry and with that in mind, we all should be taking part in OUR plan.. We want and need YOUR input to form a plan that will be flexible enough to change and it will change. We project it will take five years to get the plan to level off. What I call level is when the hunting ranch’s have purchased all the available shooters from the breeders.

Donations and plan must be implemented by September 1st so advertising will have maximum effective. If not we loose another year.

How is the plan implemented?

If we have 100-200+ hunts and donations. The possibilities are endless. If marketed right, major sporting goods chains, hunting clothes manufactures, deer calls, deer urine, tree stands. Any business marketing products for deer hunters will want in on part of the action. Because with posted ground and limited deer herds and time the future of hunting is gradually shifting to high fenced hunting. This will take time and persistence but with 100 to 200 free hunts we will get attention.

Who is going to implement the plan?

At this time we are just getting the ball rolling. At whose feet the ball stops is in the deer industries hands. Perhaps NADEFA hunting Ranch council. I stress it is very important that an unbiased party controls the decision making and the cash flow of this “no name plan“ (at this time). An unbiased person or party who will listen to the heart beat of our industry not seeking monetary gain or fame.

Also the leadership does not have to be well spoken (although a plus). But they must be well respected and connected to the above mentioned business marketing hunting and sporting goods products, TV shows and video production, ect. This can be more than one person

The plan will also have to be implemented at a state level. State Ass. carries out the plan aligning hunters with perspective ranch’s, drawings ect.

We also need a list of all hunting ranch’s state by state that are willing to participate.

If we get 100 to 200 donations, there will be a lot more plan to implement

The main reason the plan was not revealed in the thread in because the focus of the thread will be lost in the planning and not the donating. I agree we must continue to seek out each breeders thoughts. MAY THIS THREAD BE THE PLACE TO DO IT. So we do not distract from the donating.

We must envision a 1,2,3,4,5 year plan and into the future. There for we know some of you desire to donate but have nothing at this time. That’s OK There is the next years and the next and the next after that. In fact for those of you who financially or deer wise can not donate this year. Encourage the ones who have donated by posting I can not donate this year but I will support you the next or the following year. That way we have a donation list started for 2011, 2012 ect.

We have talked about. What is the plan? How is the plan implemented? Who is going to implement the plan? But all of this is just talk with out donations.

Up to now we have labeled each other as the 3%, big bad breeder, 97%, the pet breeders, the hunting ranch’s. To make this work we must unite together. We must vent our negativity in another direction and work together.. We know that not all of us are members of State deer ass. or members of NADEFA.. Some think once we establish as association we have to protect it and its assets to be good stewards. It confuses everything. Even love for fellow breeders gets redefined as that which supports the association and unloving as to who do not.

But at heart we are all members of a deer industry because we all have deer not because we have a membership card.

What can You do?

There is one way each of you can donate right now where you are sitting and reading this. Call or email a deer farmer who has a computer and inform them of what is happening on Deer Farmer forums. Get them involved.

Call you Amish friends. They are among the most giving people I have ever seen.

Encourage you state associations to talk about this at their meetings and auctions.

Please get involved. NADEFA, your state ass. can not do this with out YOU.

Wisdom,

I sure do appreciate your motivation regarding this important drive for our Industry. I only hope and pray that everyone realizes how important this is to the future for all of us as an industry. Please consider donating towards this drive. A few can do little......but many can do a lot!! lets make this a succes for all of us.

Andy, count me inand as I said before, I would spear head getting locations to help sponsor or get the word out. I am a salesman so it is right down my alley.

Lets quit beating a the dead dog already. Big or little all need to be involved so we can see were we can go with this. We have a few guys trying to get this going lets show some support and see were they are going to go with this.

Andy is there any new news on the plan. What do we need to get this going. I've got shooters growing and gonna need some were to sell them this fall for a fair price. Plus seen lot of newer guys at Nadefa so we need to get something going soon to keep this market rolling.

I'm thinking like Virgil and Andy on this. We need a plan to jump start the shooting end of this industry. If our shooter industry doesn't grow we are in trouble. I'm sure there was talk at NADeFA on this plan. What did the board members think? Will there be some action on this or like most things we talk about will it just fade away. I'm in on a buck donation too promote the shooter industry.

If that plan doesn't come to fruit I will give any preserve that buys five of my bucks one free buck to be used in this manor as a give away to promote the shooting industry and that preserves own interests.

Virgil

I feel at this time we need help in the form of ideas from other farmers such as your self. We need to put a frame work together in writing and submit it to NADeFA. I was hoping the thread would be the place to gather the ideas needed to get us started. I was hoping the any one making a living off of this industry, breeding, hunting, marketing, auctions, Ect. Would get involved. With in this industry we have a lot of good people with talents that far exceed mine.

First let me say that I really respect and appreciate everyone's positive energy here on the forums, as well as the passion behind your ideas. I know that some of you would like to get moving right away, and while I don't disagree that we should have some urgency behind this effort, I do feel we need to have a more organized approach. The other thing to ALWAYS keep in mind is that while these forums are great and there are quite a few members, it only represents a very SMALL fraction of our entire industry. I mention this simply because I do not think anyone should be discouraged by the amount of support seen here.

In order to really get this thing off the ground we have to get as many organizations involved as possible. The reason this is such a critical step is because we simply will not get the numbers of supporters needed to back this endeavor unless there are credible organizations involved. At the end of the day, most people like to know exactly where their efforts are going and HOW they are going to be used.

So how do we accomplish this task? I don't have all of the answers, but I would be willing to mention it to the rest of the board here in PA. And while I can't make any promises, I would like to see if we can get together with Nadefa and other organizations to see if we can pull ALL of our resources together to make something happen. There are a lot of great ideas out there, we just need some structure in place to get things moving.

In the meantime, I hope that all of you continue to put forth ideas and suggestions on how we can achieve our goal.

I'd like to say a special thanks to Andy for stepping up and showing his passion for our great industry.

Jack

I attended the Hunting Council meeting at NADeFA. They were discussing and finalizing another project. I wanted to say something but it did not seen to be the appropriate time. As far as I know NADeFA does not know anything concerning our PLAN. I though about discussing the Plan to some of the head people at NADeFA but I do not know them or who to speak to. Besides it looked as if every one had their plates full keeping things organized and running smoothly.

Any ideas who we can contact on the board.

If I have a name and number I will call them

At this point we need an out line of a plan and donations to back it up.

Jack if deer farming takes of in Mt you are on the ground floor.

Michael

Thank you for being our voice to the Pa Deer Ass. board. What you are suggesting is exactly what needs done. What if, there was a Michael on ever state board and he would mention the plan and bring ideas to the table from all state ass. We would soon have something to give NADeFA

Michael I pray you stay involved with the Plan. With key deer farmers like you in Pa. It will be a success.

I think we need to put together a list of all preserves and farmers who are willing to get invovled in this campaign to sell more hunts. Then what ever preserves are on that list need to buy certain percetage of there deer from the farmers without preserves that are also on that list. All advertiseing, websites, and brosures should only list preserves partisapating in this program. This way there will be no free loading from preserves who don't partisapate in this program and do not buy shooters from other farms.Same with the farms raising shooters they need to be on the list in order to sell to these preserves and in order for them to be on the list they need to donate something to be on the list. This would kinda be like a deer farmers union. This was a thought of a nother deer farmer and i thought it sounded like a good thought. What do you all think about this? Just a idea please feel free to ad to it or comment.

Yesterday I went to the biggest sporting goods dealers in Bedford County Pa. I asked the owner if he would permit me to donated two whitetail doe hunts to two winners. The two hunts include, lodging, guide, skinning and meals for two youth hunters 15 and under by a drawing. Names would be placed in a box threw Aug, Sep, and Oct in his store. I suggested any customer could register any son, daughter, grand son or grand daughter every time they came into the store for that time period.

The store owner was excited because he said it will bring hunters into his store and he also has a heart to keep kids interested in hunting. The store owner also said he would advertise the doe hunts at there hunters sports show held at his store in August. The advertising will be on bill boards, news papers, TV and on radio all weekend of the event.

I left the meeting with a smile on my face. I knew because of two doe hunts this sporting goods store owner was going to advertise high fenced hunting to south central Pa.

I also know many people in south central Pa do not care for high fence will sign up their kids or grand kids. Many of these hunters would never come to a ranch but they can not resist the word free.

These two free doe hunts will bring two hunters and two guest to our ranch. Hundreds of hunters will be touched threw their testimony and all the other advertising.

What if: In the near future I am going to Dicks Sporting Goods and do the same thing

What If: we get some support, lets go to the Harrisburg Bass Pro Shops.

Virgil

We are thinking on the same lines. I for one hope to purchase shooters from breeders who are supporting advertising for more hunters. I have some other ideas for Michael Heiter to take to our state ass. meeting concerning supporting hunting ranch’s and ranch’s supporting the industry. Hunting ranch’s are another issue to deal with in making the plan work more affectively.

On another note I am considering giving any breeder 10% of any deer they sell to a hunter they refer to us

I thought this plan was supposed to help everyone in the industry by promoting high fence hunting in general. A plan designed to increase awareness of the benefits of high fence hunting and to drive the average hunter to give our industries facilities a try.

Now it sounds like it will be a marketing campaign for those hunt ranches and farms who are involved and not a plan to benefit the whole industry.

Could this be why some are hesitant to donate until they know what it is they are donating to?

Why the desire to ruin a good thing?

Andy, there is a meeting tonight...please feel free to come and explain everything. It is at 6:00 pm Huntington Extgension Office.

It would benifit all if all would get involved and show some more support.

Wisdom,

I appreciate your drive to keep this thing going........this is what it will take for it to be successful.......we can not sit back and wait and see if NADeFA or someone else will take the reins.......we need to keep plugging away with the idea and get as much support as we can get and then it might get the attention of the organizations and we can hand the ball off to them at that point. Roger i hear what your saying and this drive should be about the whole industry ....hopefully with that being said more of us in the industry will jump on board and get involved bu donating or offering their services......the more that get involved the more successful this can turn out........we can not have it where a few are doing all of the work for many.....that just wouldn't be fair!

Thank you for reminding me of the meeting. Unfortunately I did not get your message until 5:30PM.

I likely could not have made it any way on such a short notice. I was asked yesterday to conduct the funeral service for a mother and her son. Thursday night is praise and worship practice. Saturday I am speaking at another church on hearing Gods voice. And I only have a few hours in the evenings to get prepared before the weekend.

Would you be willing to let me know more in advance concerning the next meeting.

Thank you for serving

The plan will and can not help but benefit all breeders or ranchers weather they participate or not. Any ranch owner who does not support the breeders who support the plan to advertise to get all ranchers more hunters is not helping the industry but is using the industry. This has to be a long term plan to be effective. Some hunting ranch’s and breeders who are new to the industry may not be in a position to help at this time. I am sure the industry or the plan will not exclude or neglect them. But in reality will give them a stronger future.

For example NADeFa and our State ass. Benefit all with out excluding any deer farmer. But one has to admit members who pay their dues receive extra benefits.

As I understand Virgil. This is what he is talking about.

I doubt there is a single deer breeders who believes in Socialism. Socialism takes away the incentive to achieve or reach for a higher goal or better life.

As I understand Socialism, if the deer industry were ran that way a 320BC buck would have the same value as a 120BC buck. All does would be the same price regardless of pedigrees or genetics and the same with semen.

Even the bible encourages success and reward for those who apply themselves, A worker is worthy of his wage, if one does not work he should not eat, No not muzzle the Ox that works in the field. Sow and you shall reap, Ask, seek and knock and you shall find. God rewards those who diligently seek Him. All these scriptures encourage and reward participation and not hand outs.

Roger every one benefits when every one works toward the same goal.

Perhaps I misunderstood your post or perhaps you misunderstood what Virgil was talking about.

The plan will bless all, but Gods favor will be upon those who help others
