Trimming hooves

One of our buck fawns hooves are about 4 inches long and he has some trouble walking on them. We are going to put him down to move him to the buck pen anyway. What i am wondering is what to use to trim them.

We have used plain old garden pruning shears & they worked great. We also use them as tag cutters among other tasks so I keep a pair handy.

How much do you all trim off at one time? The first time i went to trim a bucks hooves I was surprised to see how much different they were than Goats and Sheep.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Exotrimmers. I trimmed my doe's hooves today and she really enjoyed the pedicure. I was amazed how she allowed me to take a few millimeters off of each one without any fuss. I wash and polish her hooves everyday whether she wants it done or not. I hope that cocoa butter is not a bad choice for moisturizing and shining them up. When I am done with her hooves, her "feet" look smooth, black and shiny as when she was a tiny little fawn again. She's my girl.
