Anyone ever had fawns passing loose white poop looks like bird poop almost pure white. Lost one fawn from it so far but i've noticed it on others any help would be appreciated. thanks for your time

Not sure Chuck without checking the stool sample but it could be what they call white scours. Ecoli . I would treat with an antibiotic and have a sample tested . My choice is Baytril or Tetradure.

thanks mitch taking the stool sample in today we'll see what vet says i'l let yoy know.

have had the same thing with three fawns, all older (two weeks or so). One day they are fine the next dead??!! White scours, I would love some help on this. The sample I sent is also not back yet..

I would think "white" scours would be a form of E Coli probably Enteric colibacillosis or maybe even Enterotoxic colibacillosis . Might want to get them off milk or milk replacer for a few days and give them water and electrolytes along with antibiotics. I like the gelling electrolytes myself they'll keep the fawns from passing so much liguids and dehydrating so fast . Just a thought

I have just been informed that I too have the same problem as you all are describing. My vet has diagnosed it as E Coli. I have lost 3 fawns and have 3 more really sick. I have started them on 1cc of a Poly Flex/Genomyocin mix for the next 4 to 6 days and hydrating by tubing and sub Q fluids every four hours. Looks like I will have a battle on my hands as all of the fawns that are getting it are Buck fawns still on their momma in the pens. I am not sure how this outcome will work, they are 4 weeks old and have to try and get them back on the bottle after they get over the E Coli bacteria. If they get over it. WOW!!!

Eric, did the vet do a culture to see what kind of ecoli it is? Are you mixing 50% of each drug to make it 1cc? Are you tubing them with electrolytes? Seems like quite a few people are having this problem this year! Good luck!

Sheri, I did not ask any questions. He did do a culture. I was in a hurry to get home and start the process of trying to get these fawns better and take care of the others to make sure no more had a problem. My fawns are still alive tonight, but I would say I have a long way to go before they are out of the woods. I will ask my vet tomorrow what the mixture is and what strain if E Coli I have.

Thanks

Man eric you have some of the worst luck with your fawns the last couple years. I hope you get them over the hump and back on track!!!

Tell me about it Mike. Last 2 years Collostridium and now E Coli! Whats a man gotta due to get an AMEN around here. But I'm still smilin'. Gotta Love Them Fawns! :)If you don't you won't be in this business long. I gotta tell ya, I think I like the fawns better than the bucks growing out. maybe I just like a challenge?

Well we had to finish our tb testing tonight and the state made us do a couple hot growing yearling bucks and i sure did'nt want to do that. That will probably slow them down a bit but what are ya to do. Stupid law anyways, Like has there ever been a case in a deer on a farm in any state? We all test thousands of deer across the country and zippo no cases. When is enough gunna be enough???

The times I`ve experienced this was on mother raised fawns with alot of wet weather. When i`ve had it with bottle babies I always hit with Baytril and if I haven`t had a culture yet I start my bottle babies on SMZs till I find out what it is , Ecoli and Coccidia may look similar early on and the SMZs will treat both . Just my way . :)
