Two bucks dead within last week

Last a yearling buck last Thursday and another today. First indication something was wrong was got off the feed, acting sluggish and lethargic. Visual signs were hair standing up and walking softly and slowly. Both dead within 12 hours. The last buck to die started bleeding out the nose and mouth, and very red around rectum. By the time I noticed this I figured it was to late to treat him. Any ideas on what is going on? Sounds pretty consistent with EHD but wondering about any other opinions. Lost the only two bucks I had, only 3 does left.

Sure does sound like ehd. Do some research on the old posts for treatment. Better jump on those last 3 fast! Good Luck!

Here we go again......EHD ....and where is the government .....they are worried about cWd....which is a joke.....I am so sick of the way things work...it makes no sense!! No wonder we are so far in debt...the money wasted is crazy!

Definitely sounds like EHD. It's already bad down here, we've had seven so far.

This was also on the 2nd buck that died. Must have formed within 6-8 hours because it wasnt there earlier in the day.

I am in central Illinois and I have lost 10 adult does and 3 yearling bucks, 3 two year old bucks, and 1 four year old buck. It started on July 18th and is still happening at our farm. We did take a doe to the U of I for an autopsy but have not received any results yet but we are sure it is EHD.

OK, I want to say this, my grandfather said he was 21 years old before he saw his first deer in the wild in Mo. He lived in the country and farmed all of his life. Indian artifacts and drawings clearly show that whitetails lived in our area and were common during the time that natives were here. I believe that EHD killed them off at some point. This is a problem that will always be. I lost 42 deer last year to it. I do all that I can to prevent it.By the way, I have never lost a deer to CWD

I think what probably killed them off was the same thing that wiped out the buffalo, wolves, elk, etc., the white man. That was the way of war back then, wipe out the natives food sources and starve them to death. I'm 42 years old and my dad who just turned 65 can remember seeing the first whitetail on our farm when he was in the 9th grade, now we winter around 800-1,000 wild whitetails and I find dead ehd deer every year, some years way worse then others. The last 2 years have been terrible both in the wild and in my captive herd which I lost over 50.

hearing reports of ehd in central Illinois, Martinsville Indiana ( south of Indianapolis) already and its just the first of August. heard of some in Illinois mid July. we have had normal rainfall and chilly nights in central indiana. time to start walking the pens 3x/day. if we have any we will be trying the concentrated compounded dex that Charles Black had success with last year.
