I have a 3 day old bottle feed doe fawn that when she pees it stinks really bad. It has gotten worse as the day has gone by. She is now moving very slow and you can tell she is going the wrong direction fast. She has started on the bottle easier than any other fawn has and finished the entire 3oz. @her last feeding. Any ideas?

I guessing probably and urinary tract infection. I would give her pencillin for a couple days.

Yellow like normal but you can smell it across the room. When she goes it is a large quantity at once. She is loosing strength fast. It doesn't look like she will make it till morning. :(

She made it through the night and is taking the bottle, but she can't stand or hold her head up. Anoyone got any idea what it could be. We got her to pool again this morning, but very little pee.

I would bring her inside of my airconditioned house, give her some antibiotics and fluids ASAP. A vet would probably do an IV immediately. If you pull back her skin and it tents and doesn't go back normally, she is severely dehydrated. She likely has some kind of infection or dehydration. Why it is so malodorous, I don't know. I have done google searches, but cannot find an answer. I can write an email to my Vet if you'd like. Just let me know. It's 93 degrees in Northern IL, and I can't imagine how hot it must be where you are.

As each fawning season progresses, we see many requests to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of various illnesses. One of the most important details that is usually overlooked is TEMPERATURE! Take the temp and include it in your post. It will help those of us that answer these things a great deal. THANK YOU!

Really sorry to here that. We all know that you can't save them all but it just makes me sick when I lose one. Are you having a necropsy done? I would be curious if a fawn that young would die that quickly from a bladder infection. Did you talk to Doc Shipley at all? Rick

I am sorry to hear the bad news too. I think Dr. Shipley is a great guy. Just great. I would be curious to hear what he might have advised you. Am so sorry that you had to deal with all of the stress of trying to keep this little baby alive. I know what it feels like, and am grateful to the deer farmers and good people who helped me when it was needed.
