hey guys,

we are new to the deer industry and i see a lot of talk about "outcrossing". Could someone please explain this in layman's terms for me?

We just bought a 1 1/2 doe from John erwin Stolzfus who is a Goldrush daugther, her mother is a full sister to Vortex II and we had her bred to Powerpack.

What would an outcross of her look like?

Thanks!

Outcross-To cross (animals or plants) by breeding individuals of different strains but usually of the same breed.

Your doe is heavily influenced with the Max line as well as Highroller. I would find sires with very little or no influence from these two lines for a good outcross. IMO That will be hard to do given there are alot of great deer out there with Max and Highroller blood in them. But if you do your homework you can find some great lines to outcross with. You may want to consider some of the following bloodlines:

Oscar

Patrick (Eddie Ray or Gzells)

Griffith's Pa Geronimo line

Flees

Barkley and Cole Young lines

Mark Sipe's Reno line

Amos line

Theses are a few that I could think of off the top of my head.
