What is the best dart size and medicine combo?

Sam is right on........ We use the 1" needle when putting down shooters it makes a world of difference! We also try and mix ours and let it set @ room temp for about an hour before darting. Good Luck All

I talked with PnueDart today. They were very helpful and offered a lot of information.

They highly recommend the “tri-port needles with a gel collar.

We will try a 5 to 1 300 xylazine/Telazol mix and a ¾ inch triport needle and shoot 1 cc darts at does and smaller bucks. We will try and shoot them in the neck.

Larger bucks we will use same mix but go to a 1.5 cc dart and a 1 inch triport needle and also try to shoot them in the neck.

For fawns we will use and 8 to 1 mix and a ½ inch 1 cc dart and shoot in the hip.

Thanks for everyone’s input.

I don't think you will need to use triple strenght on your fawns with that mixture single strenght would do the job just fine if mixing 8-1. Myself i don't even use telazol on my fawns i use 1/2cc single strenght on small fawns and 1cc on older bigger fawns.

I used 1/4 cc of xylazine on a bottle fed doe fawn to lance a lump when she was almost 3 months old and she took 8 hours to fully come out of it. Scared the you know what out of me. I won't even use that much this year if I have to do again.

Susan did'nt you have reversal. Tolozine works good on fawns. Last fall I did 17 fawns with 1 cc of straight rompun and 2 cc of reversal with no problems.

I did reverse (Tolazine)....I don't know what happened to her. I know I gave her 1/4 cc of Xylazine because it was in a syringe and I just poked her with it.

I have a doe that is full grown and she only takes a 1/4cc of single strength to put her down and she to takes hours to wake back up even after reversed.

every deer is different and the longer you have the same deer you will learn some take more some take less to put down.

Oh...I've learned that already. We also have a full size doe that goes out snoring with 1/2 cc xylazine. She's not bottle fed but very calm. Then there are others that Randy calls the drug addicts. They won't go down.
