Okay,

So we've finally got our first lil girl home with our second coming in a few days. So our vet well he's good for paper work and was honest with us letting us know if we needed somethin he probably wouldn't know what to get.... So what should we get and have on hand we have a dart rifle with darts and nothing to go in them!!!!:)

I would always keep these on hand and the phone number of an experienced Deer Farmer who has first hand knowledge of useing them and when to use them and in what combintion and dose....................Some Drugs work well with Others and...................Some DO NOT !

Penicillin Long Lasting

Ivormectin Plus.......Injectabe Wormer

Vit B

Pro Biotic Paste

Darts

Knock Down Drug..............Wont start a Debate your Choice

Reverser

Baytril 100...............Excellent to have on Hand

Bannamine

Hexasol.......Basicly Tetradure with Bannimine in it

That's a good start!

Others but first 2 are a little pricey

Draxxin

ZooPhram

Nuflor

Dectamethasone

Vit E

Vit E-A&D

Vit B Complex

Albon

And I'm sure Folks will have some more Favorites!

Best of Luck and Enjoy!

So I should put your number in my cell phone Wayne???

I second Draxxin, expensive but worth its weight in gold. Saved many a deer for me over the years.

I also agree with Wayne knowledge is power.

Draxxin is expensive, but you should consider getting them to sell you at least 6-8 cc's to have around if you need it in a pinch. It is basically a miracle drug. The vet should do the same with selling you enough Xylazine to mix with one bottle of Telazol, and enough Tolazoline to reverse that number of doses (unless you go with BAM). With only one deer, I wouldn't get full bottles of anything expensive unless I had to, since they would likely be way beyond their expiration before use.

I second what Jeff says. With Draxxin, I don't buy a whole bottle. Its over $250 a bottle, and always expired after a year or so. I buy 10 cc syringes at a time.

Good list Wayne

I would add vit b12

and when you have fawns tetradur and nuflor

There are so many things you accumulate over time

I was looking when we cut antlers today at what all I have in the deer barn

Geesh you accumulate a lot of things.

I have totes for different jobs, medicine tote, antler infection/cutting tote, and a cabinet with gauze, syringes, tags, and a wall full of darts.

Something you should hit your deer with when you have them down is bar vac cd&t vaccine, the T part stands for tetanus and it kills deer more then you think! Machs gut!

Ezra,

This an an old post, but I think it is very close to what you are looking for.

I'm not sure if the whole thing should be coppied and pasted here, or it could be brought back to the top, or a new thread started, or posted in some other place, anyone else have any ideas.

This is probably the best post ever put on this site. Every deer farmer should have this post printed on paper and kept on file for future use! I know i do!!!

I second that Mike, that post made a huge difference for me in learning the meds and like you said I have it printed out to refer to.

Anybody have the text from the posted link in #10 above? Link is broken. Trying to do my homework on medications, and would love to have what is described.
