I have my backup buck running with my does and I'm going to AI this year so when should I take him out that way he don't breed them before AI.

Any input would be appreciated .

Thanks

Is he going to be alone in a pen before you ai? Are you going to take his antlers off after he sheds velvet? I would say get him out after he sheds but i also would cut him and have him in with a couple yearling does to keep him busy and not running the fence and acting up while looking at the pretty girls over in the ai pen!

I was going to cut his antler the day after most of velvet is gone. He is my only buck besides fawns on the property. (He's a yearling) I can put him in a pen where he cant see any other deer. Would he be ok with some of this years fawns (born early late may early June). to keep him occupied after I cut his antlers?

Thanks!

Yup that would work. Just be aware of any doe fawns coming in early. If you ai say the first or second week of Nov and then wait till Dec 1st to put him back in with the ai does you should be ok.
