We are going to bottle feed all doe fawns as usual, we have about 45 bred does so who knows what we will end up with this year. We have about 40 3 year old bucks to sell as well so if you need some get them now, they will be nice again this year.

Yep Chris I believe your right.....fawns are healthier on mom....we can't compete with God.........and I too go in daily to see the deer and give them treats....right now it's hard to beat a dandelion for treats they love them......but I try to go in many times a day once the new fawns are born and it seems to keep them good and calm......can even pet some........we too bottle feed every other year to keep the herd really good and calm......

We are going to use Fox Valley and I do not want to use the CHEAP stuff because it is a disaster, Right Sue???????? I wish everyone goodluck with their deer JIM SIMONSON

I also agree they do better on the moms. I had fawns this year the same week as another farmer I know who bottle feeds and mine were probably 10lbs- 20lbs bigger at least by fall. Not sure if this is true but i was told there is a magical number around 65lbs. I was told if you can get them that size you can breed them that year and they will take. I'll soon be finding out:) I also agree that they are easier to work. Our four tamest does are the hardest to work because all they want to do is fallow us around:) Doesnt work out to well when your trying to work them:)

We feed all of our doe fawns with goat's milk for 2 weeks and then over the course of 1 week slowly change them over to Zoologic. Additionally, we use Fawn Arrival with Encrypt and our fawns produce formed pellets at 2 or 3 days of age. This protocol virtually eliminates scours. Fawn Arrival with Encrypt is a product developted by Head Gear and it is amazing. The web site for this product is headgearllc.com. I am not employed by Head Gear but rather a very satisfied deer farmer willing to share some of our success with other deer farmers.

I have talked to a lot of deer farmers about the bottle feeding and many are learning that if you spend a lot of time in the pens around the fawns when they are born that they end up just as calm as the bottle Feds for the most part. Especially if you are doing a lot of fawns.......the people that do a few fawns and spend a lot of time petting them and being around them.....well those are the ones that end up dog tame......but they are a pain to run through a chute as mentioned previuosly.....I think if you can get into your pens a lot when the fawns are born........it is much better to leave them on Mom.........but everyone has what works for them and that's great.....wish everyone a good fawning season this year!!

To go along with what dennis said. I used to used a gravity feed and only "HAD" to be in the pen to refill every week or so. (I was there almost everyday). I have since switched to just feeding what they will eat each day in a trough style feeder. Just the presence of me there every day bringing their feed and standing by the feeder as they come up has even tamed down older deer that I started with that were never bottle fed. I have yearlying bucks that come 10' from me to eat and I left them with the mothers last year. The amount of time spent with your deer really affects how they react to people.

We are bottle feeding. Just ran fawns through chute that weren't and not good. Bottle fed much better. No bucks this year unless needed. We use Superior. No problems at all! I have interns from college this year to help.
