Wire question?

Hello All,

I have a question about stretching 8 foot stay tuff wire:

I am using 5 inch treated line posts, and 8 inch power poles for corners.

If you are in the middle of a roll of wire, how do you turn the corners?

Do you run it on the inside of your line posts, and on the outside of you corners in order to still stretch it?

Because I don’t see how you can keep it on the inside of the corners and still stretch the wire, because all that will be holding it will be your staples.

I don't like to strech the wire around the corners what we do is cut the wire and wrap it around the corners then start over on the next side.

So do you have to cut each individual wire and feed it through the fence that is already tied to the post?

I run my fence on the out side of the pipe, I did stretch it around some corners if I was just pulling a short span. I think it best to end the fence on the corners. I use pipe and tie the the wire the same on both ends. When I have it stretched tight I cut and tie one wire at a time. On wood poles if you are pulling it tight then nailing it I would still cut it long enough to wrap around the post and tie it so it will not twist the post when u cut the last few wires.

Thanks RLA!

My thinking is that if you don't go on the outside on the corners, how do you get it tight?

Once you get to the corners you can't stretch it tight through the braces.

I would not cut the wire if you don't have to but with that in mind, stretching around corners can also pull in the corners more easily so make sure you have them braced good. Any cuts could potentially make a weak spot if not handled correctly. I nuderstand why some cut but if possible, try to keep your fence in one peice, less chance of a potential issue.

You need to go on the outside of the poles

Pull the wire tight to the corner and secure then without leaving tension off turn the corner and continue down the next run nailing as you proceed. If you do decide to cut, I have some items for fast securing the corners that you might be interested in, might save time and skin

why is most people afraid to pull wire from from the middle .tying off both corners and using a strecther to tighten the wire and then splice.Thats how I believe the video on stay tuff shows you and thats how Ive done it,with no issues,Ive tested the spice with a half ton hoist and the wire breaks before the splice. you then get your wire pulled evenly, the only thing I can think of is they dont trust the splice they are using.but Ive never had one break.

If you don't have a run over 330' why would there be a need to pull to the middle? I only pull to the middle and splice if I have long runs.

i just didnt like my results doing that.wire didnt get as taught and straight but maybe I didnt do it right.felt my fence looked better and was held in place more by my corner tys and not by staples on corners.felt my final sag of wire was better.done it both ways and felt there was just as much monkey buisness doing it arround the corners.cutting it, and then tying.some times I do do it that way but doesnt take long before you got a lot of shorter peices to use.and a person needs to have confidence in your splice sooner or later.

Thanks guys for all the info!

Last question: I am am stretching wire in the morning and have heard differnt opinions on stapling wire to my poles. how often should I staple? Every run? Every 4 to 6 inches?

Or every 12 to 18 inches?
