Found this interesting. How can the DNR brag about how great it is this works with private industry on fish farming, but criticize the privatization of whitetail deer? Wish we could get grants for raising deer. Wish we could sell our animals to the DNR to help restock areas.

Experts say the future of aquaculture in Wisconsin looks promising. They think that Governor Walker's Walleye Initiative Grant program ' ', 'Segoe UI', 'Lucida Grande', ; is a huge step forward for small fish farmers.

"So you got a contract you're getting money for your fish."
The grant funding goes toward getting fish on people's plates and in Wisconsin Lakes. Last year's funding went to six fish farmers and three tribal communities.

"Expanding capacity in the state was paramount the walleye initiative," said U-W Extension Aquaculture Specialist Ron Johnson.
For the first time the DNR reached 97 % of their goal for stocking walleyes in the state. The DNR also hopes to better support the sport fishing industry. To do that they plan on introducing a larger walleye.
"To be able to produce these very desirable larger fingerlings that the Wisconsin DNR has been moving toward to stock the lakes," said U-W Extension Aquaculture Specialist Jim Held. "The feeling is that the larger fingerling walleyes have a better chance of survival."
Experts say there's a huge benefit to expanding the program.
"Bring in tourists, bring in fisherman that want to fish for walleyes, and make the destination throughout the state for walleyes," said Johnson.
A lot teamwork went into implementing the Walleye Initiative Grant program.
