I have a straw of XL's Rolex that I am considering using this year but was wondering how he finished this year. I haven't been able to find anything about him on the threads so any pics or thoughts will help . Thanks

Kevin Butler

Yea I got one too! Bought it at a Fundraiser......................Supposed to be MidNight Ranger is why I bought it......................Took 6 months to get a reply and now no pics or info................Go figure!

If you by pedigree XL on Rolex...................Should be a BONE PUSHER! ^_^

Also got a couple of Stone Mountain straws, haven't got an answer or pictures on him either. Kind of a shame was going to use him as well as XL's Rolex in some of my first line does, but don't want to risk it.

I also have a staw of XL's Rolex, and haven't seen or heard anything either. AI was on Tuesday, and did not to use it.

It sucks when you invest in someone's program and all they do is take the money and run. I have always tried to make as much info available as possible to those who have purchased semen and animals from me. Not only at the time of purchase but also down the road. It's a shame everyone doesn't do this.

Not a real big deal if your only buying shooter quality semen. I have some from bucks that were yearlings when drawn and never could get any info again! Good shooter stuff!!

I bought about eight straws of Stone Mountain because he looked great at three I think he was last year.  Going to use him because of that reason only as I really don't care how much he improved this year, sure wouldn't be a reason not to use him because I didn't get a new 2013 picture of him in my mind.  We are all very busy at this time of year and like most working deer one way or another so time is short for all of us.  I know Jerry runs a harvest facility and when I had mine in Montana I had no time from August to December as all my time was taken up with clients and breeding my own deer.  Just a thought.  Jack

Lets say the antlers didnt look good this year,or maybe they even died, that doesnt mean he's not going to throw giants. I used Stonemountain and will be glad I did. There should be some good yearlings this coming summer! I was lucky to see xl rolex and his body height and length was mind blowing for a yearling. I wouldnt hesitate on using him based on pedigree alone for what you paid for that straw. Just my opinion.    Eldon

I bought both Stone Mountain and  XL's Rolex based on look at the time and pedigree. Could care less what they look like this year . It was enough for me at the time I bought them. They will be put in my does for sure. I agree with Jack and Bruns Island. Just my personal opinion.

I agree pictures are NOT what I breed for!.......................And like I stated above XL on Rolex is a SURE Bone Pusher!

The Picture issue isn't any different than like some do in their ads and ONLY show the same picture year after year and ONLY the one of the only year the Buck looked good!

I simply was chiming in that it WAS NOT what I was bidding on.....................But Oh well.... ................and I WILL use it in the future! :)

medium calibriStone Mountain did look great @3 and I would not hesitate to use him, if he fits into your breeding program.

medium calibri     Regarding XL’s Rolex, he looks great on paper, and he looked good as a yearling.  I believe there is risk involved with breeding, and buying semen out of yearlings.  Buying XL’s Rolex semen was a risk I was willing to take.  I really expected to see some 2 yr old pic’s of him, before making the final decision to use him.  A 2 yr old pic (this year) would have helped to decide whether I was going to use this straw in my breeding program, and who to breed it to.  I can’t confirm from any number of yearling pictures, if a buck will have the traits, and the look that I would like to reproduce.  I’m not sure I can do it with 2 yr old pic’s either.  I’m not saying I wont use it. Maybe some great 3 yr old pic’s of XL’s Rolex will show up next year and make the decision easy.  Without an unlimited number of deer to be bred, and the funds to back that style of breeding program I just wasn’t willing to use it this year.

medium calibri       I’m sure I have a lot to learn about the deer business, and this experience is probably part of the process.

Zane, you are correct in your thinking that buying semen from a young buck means reviewing how he grows as he matures. It is good to insure a buck carries the traits your interested in. It is also reasonable to see how a bucks offspring look prior to deciding to use semen purchased. I would hope that if a seller is contacted inquiring how a buck looks or how his offspring looks the seller would provide as much info as possible to meet the investors needs.

These comments are not a slam on any individuals in particular. I don't even know who owns the bucks discussed in this thread.

I heard he started great and was looking real big but a long stretch of extreme heat caused him to have growth stunted. Who knows...its what I heard...I do own his mom though and she's being live bred to eye appeal so I'm excited about that
