yearling doe humped up with a gut ache

Hello all, I have a yearling doe that was fine the day before yesterday and then last night I noticed she is humped up and acts like she has a stomach ache, today she is still acting the same way. I found a spot in the pen where there were several old shotgun shell hulls that were buried in the tall grass and the deer have found them and chewed on all of them. I am thinking she may have swallowed one or if it's the signs of something else. When she's standing she she swishes her tail back and fourth and sometimes takes steps backwards. She doesn't hack, cough or have other normal "sicknes symptoms and all the other deer look great. I appreciate any suggestions on what to do or other comments.

If its just a tummy ache then baking soda should help but if its an impaction she's going to need mineral oil or some kind of oil based probiotic. *And, if there's any chance the cause of the impaction has scratched her intestinal walls she'll need some kind of antibiotic. *

Scott is right on, get an xray to start and go from there. Good choices are impaction or dead baby which isn't coming out. Both these problems would be treated different so you need to know what her problem is first.

All her indications, swishing her tail, backing up indicate very much pain. Good luck.

Hey Guys, Thanks for all the info, she started looking allot better yesterday and now today she has completely filled back out in the flanks and I've watched her eating pellets along with grazing on the new grass tonight, hopefully she's back to normal and passed whatever it was, I'm almost positive it was a piece of plastic from an old shotgun shell, I also found a piece of that black fabric they put down in tree plantings that must have blown in there they had been chewing on, the pen has never been grazed before this winter so they weren't visible until after the snow melted and smashed down the tall grass. I'll keep a close eye on her and keep ya posted if anything changes. This forum has a wealth of valuable info, THANKS to everyone for the help!!
