Hello,
I am new here but have been lurking for a while. I have consulted with my vet about these fawn (we do rehab of injured and orphan) but he has no idea what's happening, nor do my other friends who do rehab. So I thought I would see if anyone here had thoughts.
I had a 5 month old, bottle fed buck that came in as an injured fawn who was thriving. About a month ago, he went off his feed and just gradually started to fade. His joints were swollen, knees and hocks. My vet said it was uncommon in older fawn, but possible that he had joint ill. We gave him Oxytetracycline and Dex. He did not respond so we tried another antibiotic (I cannot remember the name!) but he still didn't respond. He gradually started moving around and eating less and less before dying.
Now I have another fawn doing the same! About the same age young buck. He had a bout with coccidia that he recovered from and was doing well again, but now for the last week he has puffy knees and is off his feed. We again gave oxy and dex and he seemed to respond and do better, before going downhill again in the last 24 hours. I really don't want to lose this one too!
Thanks in advance for any comments!
