Hello everybody I am new to the community and I am looking to start raising elk in TN. I am wanting to know is there anyone in the state that already raises them for I can go look at there set up. I have around 12 acres I want to use. I am looking at two sides raising bulls for there horns or raising good quality females for other ranchers. Any advice will help.

Google Tn elk farms some come up.
We raise elk here in Montana and have for forty years. We have stock from 500 to 600 inch's on our animals but we are a long way from TN. Keep in the typical type bulls as that is what the end client wants when harvesting. Get stock like this and they will always sell well.
Buy calves as they are the best a good breeder should have made and should be his best stock.

Thanks

I emailed this guy he sold out about 4yrs ago found out he sold all his herd to a guy who lives 5 miles from me. So I'm going to go check his place out.

Thanks for the help. This is what I'm looking for I want to start with a good starter herd so I know spending the money up front is the best thing.

Just to give an idea on price in my area we sell good calves for 1200 to 1500 each out of State to Idaho.
I know guys get more for their stock elsewhere but Montana doesn't have many elk farms left because the State took away the harvest end of the business and closed down the harvest farms which is where the money was. When you remove the best market for the elk the business fails to grow because you have limited outlets for your elk
Good luck with your venture.

Thanks for the info. This is what I am looking into now wear can I market my stock in my area. I have even looked into selling to some small local restaurant's. I just need to make sure it is worth the cost before diving fully in.
