Harry it was great to see you, Jarrod and Joe the other day. Wish we would have had more time to chat it up.
I am going to be thinking this plan out for the cookout for next Aug. I will have to get all the ideas together and try and make it work out between work and everyone's deer sales and such. But I like the idea. Sort of an "investors appreciation cookout" at the ol' Independence Ranch.

Last fall we collected on Updraft's womb brother and held the semen back and did not release any at all for sale. This fall we will sell a few straws for those looking for a "cleaner" version of the same spectacular pedigree.

Roger I think Updraft is great, but I don't know why you have hid his brother? I personaly like his look better. Again Not Putting Updraft down. I just like the horizontal beams w/ the tines that seam to fly out on Downdraft. Both are great looking buck!

I was hoping that today I could add to the discussion the official scores of the 2 Big Guy sons we have here. Today during our TB testing we knocked down both Updraft and Downdraft. Unfortunately I was unable to get an official scorer to attend today. I did however have 4 other farmers here besides my wife and I and the vet and his assistant to do the first circumference measurements, the beam lengths, and the width measurements. I will still need to give the cutoffs to an official scorer now to see what they come up with.
We also tried a new technique of molding the burrs to allow the antler replicator to have greater success in replicating the entire antler to the most exact dimensions. The molding stuff worked REALLY well, and I was lucky to have a taxidermist here to assist with the molding of the burrs on both Updraft and Downdraft.
Each of the 4 other farmers did the measuring for us and recorded the numbers. This was the best we could do this year to this point. I don't know what more I could have done to be as legit as I possibly could.

We got the numbers back from the official scorer who scored both Updraft's and Downdraft's cutoff antlers. Although he is an official scorer since he was not present for the antler removal we will be only advertising Updraft and Downdraft as estimated this year.
Also the scorer decided not to credit all of Updraft's circumference measurements since he thinks some of them could be considered "palmation." Therefore he used the first 2 smaller mass measurements in place of the others.
Updraft 317 6/8" at age 3
Downdraft 225 7/8" at age 3
Not a bad set of triplets Dolly had there. I only wish the third boy had lived
Take note that a very special 2010 Poncho doe fawn maybe be selling at auction this season out of Dolly.

Yes Dennis, Dolly is a special doe at our place. But she has been long before she ever had any fawns. She has always been "Laurie's Dolly" and I was informed right from the start that Dolly would never be leaving the farm. Dolly is like our child, well...actually Laurie's child
It's all good though as we decided to take on a partner last winter with Dolly and the agreement says she stays at our farm. However this past springs fawns belong to Laurie and I.
Since we now have a partner I don't know if there will ever be any more fawns from her offered for sale after this season. So her 2010 Poncho daughter mentioned above may well be the last ever offered.
Michael Peters, Steve Smith, and Phil Hinch of Cola Blanca own the only other Dolly daughter ever sold. Pearl is her name, and she is a PJ doe who had an awesome looking Updraft son this past summer. Watch for "Jetstream" as he will be big! He looks a lot like Updraft at age 1. Great mass, LOOOONG tines, long main beams, and some extras up high and going out. Just a really good looking yearling buck.

I know there were several folks who really liked the look of our buck Contrail this year. I just thought I would let you all know what he ended up scoring for the year. This is NOT an official score, but I promise it to be as accurate as I could get.
Contrail at age 2 in 2010 scored 194" with a 6x5 mainframe and some long tines. A very pretty buck.
Contrail again is a son of Max Thrust on the top side and is out of a Tomahawk/WRW Moose doe called Madison.
We are actually offering a 2010 Updraft doe fawn out of Madison at the coming Buckeye sale. I like this cross so much that I have 2 of her sisters that I have kept and will be breeding this fall. They are of course just a year older.
If anyone has any questions about the 2010 doe fawn offered in the coming Buckeye sale just let me know.

The following series of posts (posts number 79 through 99) show the breeding crosses we are making in Nov of 2010 at Independence Ranch. We have increased the size of our breeding herd to be better prepared for the auctions, and off the farm sales.
Some of the bred does will be available in the Jan 2011 Top 30 sale, some are now for sale as off the farm sales, and we will also be offering 2011 fawns from some of the crosses shown as well.

Izzy bred to Cardiac Kid. All I can say is Izzy is the full sister (2 years younger) to Updraft and Downdraft. This is first time breeding and all daddy wants for Christmas is 2 big healthy doe fawns from Izzy and Cardiac Kid.
Look at the pedigree of these potential fawns and point out the flaw. I simply don't see one.
