i will be raising them for hunting... naturally... and taking a few wach year....

thought and concerns thank you

Not sure I fully understand what your asking:confused:

Are you saying you want to raise your deer in order for you hunt them come fall?

If so,

A- It would be cheaper for you to go to a preserve once a year.

B- I don't think it's possible to interact/grow close with your deer all summer then turn commando on them come fall.

c- There will be nothing "natural" about the hunt, you know these animals and they know you.

Sounds like your just getting started in raising deer, you'll soon find out after caring for these animals and realizing each ones individual personalities, your views will change. I would go as far as saying it could change the way you approach hunting wild deer, it has for me anyhow.:)

No doubt it will change the way you hunt!!! A guy told me that when i start raising deer i will stop hunting deer!!! Course i said no way as i was a hunting maniac..Hence the name four season whitetails...I had to say it but he was almost right..I have all but stopped hunting with a rifle and now its mostly muzzleloader and 100% bow!!!! I will never stop but i can tell you i find it hard to take a deer in the woods that is smaller than the ones i have at home..Its hard to find that kind of buck in the wild..lol.. There is no way i could take my own unless it had to be done....Sick or hurt i guess!!!

As long as you have a big enough space say 200 acre or more. I feel yo and your friends could have a good time if this is the kinda thing you like. To go along with what these other guys said I would not put deer you hand raised in there. I would put some good bred does in there with a nice breeder and let them do there thing naturaly. After a few years you would have some native deer running around in there.

the math .... 30 acres = 12 deer max .....if you want it "natural"

natural means does and fawns and bucks ....so

ratio of 2-1 year one 5 does 1 buck cull so they remain at 5

10 fawns every year 6 survive (3+3) total deer 12

year two 5 doe, cull 3 does ,6 new fawns 3yearlings ,1 buck =15

year three 5 does ,cull three does, 6 new fawns,3 yearlings, 3 @ 2yrs.

1 buck=18

year four 5 does, cull three does, 6 fawns, 3 @1 yr., 3@ 2yrs. 3 @ 3yrs.

1 buck. you get to hunt one buck this year total 19

you run this many deer on this much land they will trash it until it looks like a parking lot with a few trees

Respectfully disagree,

Area is not a factor when shooting deer you raised personally (hence nothing natural). You already own them while their alive, they can't get away, and no one else will get them. If shot you still own them, they just won't grow any bigger....

I would just pay to hunt at someone elses's preserve, the cost to put up a 30 acre fenced area would be very high, nothing wrong with hunting a preserve, then you would be supporting our industry as well.

These deer would not be raised personaly. The area would be stocked then managed after they start to reproduce.

As far as them being able to get away and no one else shooting them that would be the whole point. This would be just like having your own preserve. Heck you could even sell a few hunts if you wanted. No different then going to a hunting preserve.

The bigger the better.I just don't see thirty acres being big enough.

I am looking to do the same here in Ky. I have 22 acres under high fence for hunting. The area we have set up is long and has a creek running threw the center. It is thick woods and Brush. We are in our 3rd year now and just starting to get some nice shooter bucks.

The way I want to start was to be able to tranq. the deer I had in the area for a fee. This would be deer that need meds or lost there tags or something. This way I would get my Bucks in that 4 yr old category with out killing them and know what I have.

The only hunting would be from a hunting Shed built into the fence or a Tree stand accessed from out side the fence. There would be no chasing the deer around in the preserve. Only set and wait like bow hunting from a tree stand.

The hunter would be brought to the Shed early in the morning before day light. While in the shed you would not be able to see any fence in any direction. There are shooting lanes from 30 to 100 yards throw the woods.

When hunting, deer are creatures of habit. They do the same thing every day if they think they are safe! They sleep they eat they go back to sleep. You will see the deer do the same thing everyday Tame or wild.

The deer farmer shooting there own deer is not hunting they know there routine. But a hunter that has never been to your hunting site is different. They don't know what to expect. What kind of deer are in the area. When or where would they come from. This is what hunting is all about the trill of the unknown.

You guys that have been raising deer for a long time have some beautiful big deer. The average hunter here in Ky have only seen bucks in the 150 class. They would S#$% there pants if they had a chance to shoot a 170 class buck.

Hope this help you out OK.

I would like to here others thought on this set up. Pro's or con's

Thanks

Brad

In WI we are required to have at least 80 acres to do high fence hunting. I personally feel that 22 or 30 acres is too small, no matter what the land looks like. But, this is a free country - or at least so they tell us.

30 acres would kind of be like hunting pen raised pheasants, or fishing on a pond stalked with trout. Could be fun, but not the same. I found that on 300 acres it was pretty good and on 1300 acres it is very good. But, my deer are roaming that 2 sq miles and I don't see them that often. +1 to the math above. most people dont realize that if we are taking 5 year old deer, then the ratio needed to keep the herd flat is about 5 bucks per doe.
