Thanks Jared & Cody. I have a copy of his score sheet from last year. I am out of town on vacation now but when I get home I'll scan it and post it. We took a copy of it to the NADEFA show in Nashville this year for people to see as well as the Alabama Deer Association show. I certainly am not an expert on scoring a deer of this size but here is what I understand about the scoring. Please note I was not present when he was scored last year but I will be present this year.
He was only given credit for his mass from his C-1 & C-2 measurements on each beam, the C-3 & C-4 were given the measurement of the C-2 ,since the beam is not round where the C-3 & C-4 would be measured, It is palmated. For example let's say his C-1 is 6", C-2 is 6" the C-3 measures 20" and the C-4 measures 20" That would be a total of 52" for one side. If the other side was the same then it would also have 52" for a total of 104" of mass, however due to the palmation they would not use the measured C-3 & C-4 of 20 inches each they would only give him the C-2 measurement of 6". With that being said they would give him 6" + 6" + 6"(not 20") + 6"(not 20") for a total of 24" per side. This is a total of 48 inches using the substitute figures.
Cody thanks for the link. You can see from the link on the score sheet they reference a round beam. Since his beam is palmated as it goes out pass the C-2 measurement they make a determination as to where the top of the beam is and make their tine measurements from this. Hope this makes since.

Thanks wayne for the clearification. I have scored a bunch of "typical" framed deer but I am at a loss when it comes to judge calls like these type of special cases. In my opion I think they should count the 20" measurements but then that would screw him on his tine length because that would force you to say the top of the palmation is the top of the main beam. Regardless he is HUGE and is the coolest 500" deer I have ever seen. It is amazing that he can carry the "symetry" from side to side while being over 500" Usually after 400" they just start to look crazy.

Wayne, I still don't see anything about a round main beam, I may be looking right at it but I've never heard of not measuring the whole main beam circumference even if it is palmated. I'm not argueing just trying to figure out how he was measured and from what point do you measure from, no main beam it really actually perfectly round and at what point is it classified as palmated and doesn't get the full circumference? This is a huge difference in how his score could end up and it definatly needs to be done by a panel of official SCI scorers so there won't be any questions on who, what and why. Hope everyone has great fourth of July and nobody's deer get spooked from blasting fireworks!
sdbigbucks,I'm with you on this. I have only seen B&C scoring and palmation doesn't matter on the mass measurement. We'll have to check with SCI scoring to get their take on the mass measurement when palmation comes into play. Thanks

With SCI you have to determin what is the beam and what is palmation and draw a line at the top of the beam and measure the tines down to that line.
You can go to SCI web site to view the rules on this and also see if there are any SCI scoring classes near you. ALL DEER FARMERS SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS even if you don't become an offical scorer atleast it will give you a understanding of how to score.

The moral of the story is; breed for palmation. That way you get credit for good mass and you get EXTRA credit on tine length. 
It truly is bizarre how balanced he is for a huge non-typical. That is harder to believe than any score they come up with for him. I guess he is a superb example of good breeding and what happens when all the genetic markers fall into the right places.

Randy, Thanks for the explanation, one of my clients just got done taking the Boone & Crockett course and also can measure SCI, he agreed and said it is different with the palmation for SCI. Wayne, I can't get over how big he already is and still has a ton of time left to grow, simply an amazing looking animal, I pray he stays healthy and even!!! He looks to me like he's about almost as big as he was last year when he was done growing. I love mass and palmation, to me that means old deer and is hard to beat for an impressive look. I have a Lakota yearling out of the twin sister to Pierce's Tonto Jr., 306 @ 2 and he already has 10 points on his left side and being a mainframe 6x with lots of mass for a yearling. I'll post pics soon. This is my second year raising deer and the only thing better then hunting them is raising em and hoping to grow one like X-Factor some day!

Cody: Thanks for the comments, he is a really calm deer and doesn't stress himself much. We'll keep our fingers crossed on staying healthy. We think he is already bigger now, with plenty of time left to grow, than he was last year. I don't want to jinks him but we've got to wonder if he will hit 600 this year.

Wayne, My x-Factor/ double Rold Gold buck fawn acts the same way, he is momma raised and just as calm, cool and big as can be. He'll come up and get 5 ft. from me all the time, every time I go into the pen, he runs right up to me and follows me around. Out of 45 momma raised fawns he is the calmest by far. Isn't it funny how genetics even in attitude are passed? Lets just hope his bone genetics passes the same way!
