Whats everyone breeding with this fall ?

It sure is amazing how fast they turn on a person isn't Gary and Jane. It has gotten to the point where we have to say sorry instead of congrats for raising a big buck.

Bruce,

You have a couple of very nice looking yearlings. Nice frame and width on them. Congrats!

I symply wanted to know why they decided to go this route. Like I said don't want to start any fights. Specialy with but kissers who are no longer in the business. I think Gary and Jane have some very nice animals probly some of the best in the industry. Myself I feel these kinda bucks if bred for are just asking for trouble. I mean come on they can not even hold up their heads and most have to be cut or they will die. As Lamar Borkholder stated in his artical in the totaly typ mag how many preserves are bying shooters with cut antlers.

Sorry Gary and Jane if I affended you did not mean to. I just think to many deer like this don't look good for the industry.

If you had the biggest deer ever I'm sure you would breed to it, no matter how it looked. Ballistic is actually very balanced and very wide - two things everyone wants. I'm sure not all of his offspring are going to look like him - but if they do that's great. We want to add points and mass to some of our lines and he is the guy to do it. In addtion, like I said, we have several awesome 2 year olds we are using this year in addition to Rex, So Big, Big Time and Blue River. We are breeding about 200 does, so will have numerous crosses and of course we are using Ballistic.

I think I have my list complete, Id better, 10 days to breeding day

Virgil,

You just can't let it go can you. First off, if it’s me you refer to as the butt kisser that's no longer in business, well you are mistaken. I don't know Gary or Jane much better than I know you, and we have not done 1-cent of business together ever(not that I wouldn't). Oh, and I've been raising whitetails for well over 20yrs and right or wrong I still have plenty of them.

Like you, I don't want to start a fight on here. But it just kills me to see you criticizing someone else’s pride and joy on this forum. Apparently you have your idea of what you think is the perfect buck for the industry. That's great, I can respect that, but going after someone else's personal choice of breeder buck on a public forum like you are, in my opinion is just wrong.

I apologize to the other readers for getting off subject here...

Was not refering to you at all Barry and I was not criticizing them or their deer. I just wandered why they chose to breed with Ballistic after they said they did not breed with this type of deer. If you read the post about outdoorlife comeing down on Ballistic you would know what I meant.

I didn't say we don't breed with this type of deer - we breed with ALL types of deer since we want variety. When we made this cross we never dreamed we end up with a deer this awesome but we did and we're tickled pink! No one ever knows what a particular breeding will bring them and that is the beauty of this business. We all hope to better the deer we have and we all hope to have a record setter but no one can say whether it will happen or not or what that deer will look like. You just keep making crosses that make sense and go with what has worked for you in the past. We have our breeding management plan just like everyone else and it seems to be working for us.

If you are running a hunting preserve you find out pretty quickly that not everyone wants a clean typical and not everyone wants a crazy nontypical - but there will be somebody that wants each of those deer and everything inbetween. So if you want to stay in business you breed for both. This industry hinges on the hunting market.

I thought you meant you did not breed for this kinda deer. Thats why I was wondering why would you breed with him then. Sory for my misunderstanding.
