It is amazing how well oiled the PR machine is of those who oppose us. This article came to print almost immediately following NADefa's announcement that their annual conference would be at French Lick Springs casino resort. That is one of the most beautiful facilities for a conference in the US. The local paper this was published in is the only one in the county I believe. I hope the ACA can get a response to this published and I hope Nadefa will lend a hand to the ACA's PR people. I believe this is an attempt to up stage the upcoming conference announcement. The guy who forwarded this article is supposed to scan it at his business tomorrow. Then it can be posted more clearly. For the last 24 hrs. I also tried everything to locate it without actually subscribing.

This is the home town of the legislator who carries our bill and is very vocal about supporting us and helping us. I think he usually wins with 80 plus percent of the vote. This is nothing more than uneducated liberal media having a platform.

The Brandon guy who wrote the article is based out of Bloomington, IN which is the hitching post of the most wacky tree hugging PETA A$$'s in Indiana. Environmental activism, the HSUS, PETA, and these wacky wildlife organization are where communist minded individuals have found their home. It infuriates these people because what we are doing doesn't fit under their egalitarian wildlife model and umbrella. The wildlife model the state of Indiana uses for managing the wild deer herd is copied from the idea for wildlife management of an East German communist. Who stated everyone should have equal opportunity at every wild animal. Our high fenced private property and our deer we have privately owned for decades throws a monkey wrench in this socialist scheme. That is why they hate us and that is why it's mostly liberals who hate us who love socialism. Capitalism says if you were wise or lucky enough to have gained enough wealth to buy yourself a chance at a bigger buck than the other guy or gal then reward yourself.
I read an article quoting that our preserves are threatening the "long standing" American Conservation Model, and Public Trust Doctrine. Long standing???? It was drawn up in around 1995. Hardly 20 years old. No input from farmers, citizens, etc.,, just conservation people, voted on by no one, yet they treat it as the "holy grail". We need to call them out on this. Hunters don't realize, that this is the "Obama Care" of hunting. Socialized hunting, we are all equal??
What's the point of buying hunting land, putting up food plots, etc., the government is going to take care of you and give you equal hunting to those that work for it!! Let's just let the state buy more land, and give more free acres, for freeloaders to hunt, with our tax dollars.

In SD the Game Fish & Parks leases up private land for public walk-in. Most of it is just a bunch of open over grazed junk pasture land that doesn't even have enough habitat for a field mouse but they can boast that they have a million acres open to the public for free hunting. Most of this land is leased by money from non-residents license sales that are hunting on private shooting preserves hunting released pheasants that were raised or bought by the operation. Again, typical liberal BS, wanting someone else to pay for the rest of the "poor" people who can't afford to pay for a lease or a hunting trip. Where does it stop, maybe since most of the "poor" people who have to fish from shore because they don't have enough money for a new Ranger, the Game fish & parks should lease a fleet of boats for the public to use. Leased by the money from "rich" outa stater license sales of course.
Our GF&P even leased up one of the largest irrigated farms in the country where hundreds of thousands of migrating geese feed all fall long. The farm used to have a private club but the GF&P hassled them so much about "baited fields" and even hunting too close to a private lake that had some wounded geese on it, they ticketed everyone for hunting over "live"decoys. The farm owner who isn't a hunter finally said the hell with it and leased it to the GF&P for $80,000 and now it's pretty much ruined the area because they have no rules. People hunt every field all day long to the point the geese just leave or fly right on by and go south further. They won't manage it by having half day hunting or anything like that to keep the geese around because it might offend some Wildlife Federation guy who can't hunt mornings, just afternoon. Free for all for everyone until the public ruins it and then they whine because all the geese are feeding in the private fields that guys manage correctly to keep the birds around. Most years they might kill 1,000 geese on the place, do the math on that, pretty expensive geese but as long as they don't have to pay for it, it's great. Leave it to the GF&P to screw up a whole flyway.

If Obama was running the DNR in Indiana I can just hear him now saying "uh uh uh with these deer eeeevrybuddey deserves a fair shot, eeeevrybuddey deserves a fair share."
We are working very hard in Indiana. There are some game changing opportunities coming up that will help us inform the uninformed in large numbers and influence our political leadership here as well. Pray for us here in Indiana that we make the most of our opportunity on this platform. We will have a much different looking bill this fall than SB404. Some sand will be pounded and some rocks will be kicked by the opposition.

Apparently we don't have enough "free range" deer to shoot in Minnesota!!
I was at the DNR meeting this spring and listened to the whiny hunters who don't see enough deer. They have been used to shooting 3-5 deer a year, and now they are spoiled. Farmers testified to crop damage, but hunters said that farmers and insurance companies had too much input. One hunter testified that farmers shouldn't have ANY input, because they got "government subsides" and "tax right offs"?????? He also said that he didn't mind paying higher insurance rates if he could hunt more deer. Let's see, only 8% of the residents in Minnesota hunt deer, so the other 92% of the residents need to pay higher insurance rates so the 8% can have more recreation???
Imagine that, the ones who actually pay the bills, for the "feral deer damage" shouldn't have any input. Well the hunters won out, and the DNR will profit from it, with more tag sales in the future. The hunters said they pay for the deer with tag costs. They actually think that a $28 tag pays the cost of raising a deer!
The funny thing is in the Rochester paper on Weds. there was a story that 3 local cities were complaining that "they are seeking a remedy for the abundance of deer" , "that the deer population seems to be booming", "Landowners find their plants destroyed by deer that come into the city looking for food, and there's an increased risk of deer-vehicle collisions." " The police chief added that the city has an uptick in unreported accidents related to deer".
Let's see we need a larger deer population for hunters, but their are complaints that there is an abundance of deer????????????
When we had our "1" wild [feral] deer come down with CWD 4 years ago, that zone had a population of upwards of 90-100/deer per sq. mile. The high population was pointed out as a concern by the DNR as problem for CWD spread. The forestry service says there should be no more than 20/deer per sq. mile or damage to forests are severe.[But they are virally ignored] Now that the population is down [or is it], they want to move the numbers higher???? Will those idiots ever learn?

One of Indiana's problems is that IDEFA does not sit down with preserve owners and get on the same page. All parties should have a seat at the table. Until they recently put your dad on the legislative committee, preserves have had NO SAY in any of the bills that IDEFA has brought to the table. We are all in this together. I would not want only preserve owners making up bills on farmers raising cervids! This is a two way street. At some point you have quit beating your head against the wall and doing the same dang thing time after time and expecting a different result. You have to wonder how many wolves are in sheep clothing. Maybe their friends are not really their friends.

Jerrilee, The Preserve owners and IDEFA are planning a meeting to discuss combining forces. You make a very valid point that preserves and deer farms are two different entities. , I have always said who do you want to work on your car, the salesman or the mechanic. Obviously there needs to be collaboration but if you have never operated a preserve there is no way you can determine what is or is not needed. We are going into it with an open mind and hope everyone can put the industry first.. This will be the final year of this fight one way or another, we gotta make the best of it.

I hope its more than just lip service. You have a president that said to my husband why would anyone want to open a preserve? it cost too much money. That's what you are dealing with.

When its all said and done I just want to resolve to the fact that we done all we can. We have a new Senator this year that I feel will make all the difference in the world. No more bills written by the DNR, The ridiculous regulations and requirements are not going to be entertained this year. Everyone knows there will be oversight but it doesn't have to be so cumbersome you can not efficiently operate.

I got on Brandon's blog today. He in a round about way was attempting to defend another writer of similar persuasion who had been fired from his outdoor writing position for speaking out against the freedoms guaranteed by the second amendment. Brandon fits right in the culture of this area of the state. I would bet this guy probably files all the barbs off his fishing hooks so he doesn't hurt the fish.
Indiana is ground zero for the industry to fight these guys. If the battle is lost here then Katy bar the door everywhere else because you will fall much easier to the same sword.
If these idiots are able to convince conservative business minded politicians here that their egalitarian socialist wildlife model is something our private property is included in then there is no way a state with a liberal senate or governor will stop them. I hope the preserves, NADefa, Idefa,the ACA and everyone can understand what happens here will mean whether we all have an industry or not. Its time we all pull together.

Between my hunters and Soldiers program I have over 1,000 people here each year. Its so frustrating when these idiots act like they speak for sportsmen and outdoors people. The hunting industry would be far more vulnerable to the anits if not for all the people and money poured into the industry by us. Not everyone can go to pike county Illinois hunting. That is a thing of the past.
