i have a fawn that quit coming to her bottle yesterday and was very lathargic when i checked her her tag was infected so we cut it out and gave her 2 cc penacillin but still no change so we brought her in and gave her banamine and tetradore and about 20 minutes later she stood up and started swinging her head into the wall!? any help is greatly apreciated!

she is 7 weeks old and roughly 20 lbs and her temp is normal but now she is taking pauses between breaths and grinding her teeth. she is barely moving or holding her head up.
Teeth grinding is an indication of pain. Give banamine, .5 - 1 cc, if you have C/D anti-toxin, give 10 cc's sub-cu immediately and penicillan. The shortness of breath makes me think pressure from bloat is pressing on her lungs. Good luck.
She probably has a deep inner ear infection, precipitated by the tag infection. Only an invasive process to dig out the infection and flush with an antibiotic fluid will help if in fact this is the case.

The bowel was twisted!!!!! That`s where the obstruction came from. This little girl hit the fence or a post not really sure but the impact caused the twist in the bowel. The yellow really had me baffled. The vet is kinda guessing here but thinks this may be fatty tissue from green pasture.????? Myself, I don`t have a clue because I have never seen this much yellow in any fawn I have looked at. The BLACK bowel really shows that it is dying and dead. The toxicity is what kills them but what has caused this yellowing???? If yall find the answer let me know.
This finding really helps explain some of the problems we have encountered this year. All of the problems had very similar symptoms and each case involved some kind of trauma that would have given the fawns a blow hard enough to do what you have seen here. Liz.....the ejected fawn is most likely suffering from this same condition. Other than surgery I wonder if there is a way to "straighten" the kink. What would happen if you filled the bowel with water by way of multiple enemas? Do you think you could blow it up like a balloon and get it cleared?
Sometimes when fawns reach that toxic level of infection it can result in the infection "glueing" the intestine closed , had a fawn 4 weeks old that wouldn't eat , tube some milk into her, dead 6 hours later , opened her up , milk still in stomach, squeezed stomach like a balloon but still couldn't make the milk move through the inestine. Internal necro near the larynx.
