Runnin Wild is getting 12 girls this fall, and I am having two of my Runnin Wild daughters AI'ed, one is getting a full straw of Texas timber, the other a full straw of Unleashed. These will be my first ever AI does, so that's exciting.

not AI'ing this year

using 2 banjo yearlings and 3 -2yo bucks we used as yearlings last year, we were lucky and picked the best yearlings to use last year as they were at the top of the 2yo's this year, plus one buck had about 70% buck fawns out of 15+ does, almost as good as sexed semen   LOL

Jerri Lee

We too will not AI after we use up the hundred or so straws of Thunderstorm in our tank unless another clean balanced buck surfaces with over 19" tines like Dude. I am done with buying semen from just another big deer. The only deer I will aggressively pursue in the future is going to have to be clean and with longer tines and beams than Dude. I haven't seen anything else out there that will help us move forward from where we currently are in our typical breeding program. Why should we spend more money just to keep buying semen to breed another buck with 15" or 16" tines? I have already got that. I can raise nice hunt bucks with the genetics we have but I will always relish the challenge of trying move foreword and expand the square around our frames if something comes along that is both taller and wider. I guess in some ways typical breeding may be easier because of the limited options out there. For the non-typical breeder the options are endless. I would go nuts trying to figure out what tines I was breeding for when trying to chose which non-typical buck to breed with.Lol

If we find genetics in the future that help us toward the bigger square we will bring them in by AI. I will never again bring in someone else's problems to our herd by purchasing a live animal.
