Hello all.....I am new to this forum and have already posted one question in the health and wellness section. I read a lot on here since joining last week and am trying to gather as much info on deerfarming as I can. Also I would like to gather info on the members here if your willing! So if you guys are willing could you just post your names and farms and maybe a little info on yourselves so I can know where my information is coming from?

I'll start if it helps....

My name is coty and I just started farming a year ago. I will get my first bucks with racks this spring. I began my farm with a 340 inch loner (a PA Geronimo son) to breed with. My doe are a maxter daughter and a matrix on soaring eagle doe. Also a cardiac kid son on top of a maxter doe.

I'm trying to produce preserve bucks and hopefully one day get enough money to enter the breeder market with my deer.

I know some of the lines that I have and am working with and any knowledge or comments on my genetics would be appreciated if there's any insight out there. I know they are older lines also.

I'm trying to learn as much as possible and sorry for the ramble but I'd like to get to know some of you guys on here. Thanks.

Howdy BB24,

I am also fairly new. Hope things go well with your bucks this spring. These guys/gals on here are very helpful.

What size pens and heard do you have? I would love to hear the process you went through in starting up. Just for comparison sake.

Dad and I are partners on our deer. We plod along. If we gain 5" a year in our discipline we are excited. We are trying to build a certain kind of doe. You are probably better off following the masses if you want be in the breeder market. We have lower scoring wild looking genetics. There is a wealth of knowledge to be had on deerforum.

My name is Jonathan

Welcome. I wish you good luck and good times watching your first bucks grow their racks this summer. Be sure to take pictures this summer, we always have a yearly antler growing thread, that actually starts pretty soon. It will be in the antlers bar and lounge section or breeding and genetics section, It's fun to get on and check it out.

I have a herd of 34 deer currently. I also breed for the stocker market. I am selling all my bucks at 2 years of age, and with 10 breeding does each fall, I usually get 6-12 buck fawns each spring. if you would like to see some deer that I raise, I got plenty of picture in the farm and ranch showcase section, click on nelson whitetails.

we live in Indiana and  have been farming since 2010.

We are not interested in the breeder market, Just big typical deer.

Our focus is to have 150-200" typical 2yo because thats where we believe the market is.

We like variety of looks because not all hunters want the same thing which is why we use 4-5 breeders each year.

Hi Coty,

Maxter produced some huge sons for me so hopefully his daughters will be great producers for you as well.  I am attaching a 3 year old son of Maxter that we are breeding with.  His name is MGM Grand.

Thanks for the replies keep them coming.

As for my pens I have 3 right now over about an acre of land. All interconnect with gates so I can separate them how I like. I separated all my buck fawns to roam my two smaller pens openly and my big main pen is where my 3 doe and breeder are at. I am trying to buy more land to expand to 6/8 pens.

Also I have no bleeding desire to get into breeder market. Just a thought to challenge myself later down the road.

My main goal is to produce 300+ shooters yearly. I want to turn my unknown doe into a gene that other people want.

For example my breeder and two of my doe are all from the same mother who has thrown over 10 300 inch bucks. And has also had triplets and even quad bucks(who were all over 300). I'm hoping her daughters throw like she did as one has already thrown triplet bucks before coming to my farm. If her lines keep producing like this I may try to market every buck they throw and its all from one key doe. Who is dead now and I'm the only one with her offspring still left as I have 2 direct daughters.

I ramble and may sound insane so someone feel free to tell me if my thinking is going the wrong way. And remember I'm just raising these for shooters right now.

But I guess my question is......is it relevant to think if this doe daughters all start throwing triplets or quads as some already have and 300+ inch bucks consistently .could that catch breeders eyes?? Even breeding with my biggest yearling son after this spring who would be that doe x2 with a loner father who is already 1 of 4 quads who is 340+ and not even the biggest of the 4.???

I know I ramble sorry.

Lol. We all ramble. But i will tell you this and it's a fact. If you have a line that is producing like crazy then keep it.. I don't care what it's out of or the line. Pedigree or not. Because production is the key to success.. production pays the bills and hype will make you go broke!!! That's the truth

a doe/line of deer that produces like that will keep u in business.. do what it takes to keep those girls healthy

That's my plan. Anything from that doe or her daughters are what I'm going to keep and make my foundation. Along with my Patrick line doe.

Older lines I know, but they produce. Anyone else use older lines like these and what have been your results?

We have quite a bit of Patrick, and anything out of thunder. One word of advise is shoot for 200"@2, then sell them. You would be more likely to sell a buck around 200"@2 and make good money than chasing the 300" as 3yr olds. JMO

I know this is not the classified section, but wanted to see if anybody has any Texas semen they might sell or do some trading on. Had rather trade if possible. Something a poor man can afford. LOL
