American Cervid Alliance Sets the Record Straight with CWD Facts

Well you have to look no further than Shawn Hanley as the representative for IDEFA to the ACA.  To my knowledge he has not been on one ACA call since I went off the board.  Maybe Travis can verify that information.

Have you or anyone talked to Sen. Luke Kenley???  He has been a huge asset to the horse racing industry and been instrumental in them keeping money that the state was wanting to take away.  I'm sure he is all about the agricultural industry.  He fought hard for the horsemen.

Jerrilee, I promise I will trace down the issue keeping the ACA from helping the Indiana farms and the Industry.  Maybe they are legit-ably justified, maybe they are not.  If its over egos someone got some real explaining to do and will be exposed. You are right about opening up a new preserve right now, be a big gamble.  I would rather be sitting with my money in the bank instead of limbo which could be lost on my preserve.   There will be a resolution to this somehow.  I think we will be able to sustain the industry and save the farms and preserves.  Our biggest hurdle are these morons adding requirements meant only to hinder the ability to operate..  We got a Senator this year who will shed light on the subject and get us where we need to be.

Hotrod and Jerrille,

Yes Rodney, the IDEFA board should have the answers you seek.  Shawn Hanley is the registered ACA Councilman for IDEFA from their last correspondence to us.  So you would need to ask them why they have not been participating with the Alliance after the signed up.  This is an internal Indiana question for your state's producers and the IDEFA board to sort out.  No one from any other state, myself included, would have any idea why your board makes the decisions it makes, that is yalls' business. Only Shawn can answer your questions.  If and when IDEFA wants to come back to the table, we will be more than happy.  Please pass that along message.

You keep referring to motives and ego within the ACA.  Again, I am not sure what you have a problem with three dozen leaders working together for on 100% donated time.  The ACA is nothing more than a team of associations working together to ensure this industry is around for the next generation.

To my count, there are 40 cervid associations with an active charter with 36 of them having committeed themselves in writing to joining the Alliance.  That's 90% of the cervid industry's associations. Not bad for an organization with no paid figure head rallying the troops. 90% is pretty great, to make a comparsion, that would be similar to 12 of the 13 original colonies joining the United States as a team to defend their freedoms (92%).  I am hoping one day all 40 will be active with the ACA.  If folks want to help determine the direction of the ACA, they have to come sit at the table.  All are welcome.

Travis, I promise I will get some answers.  Dont take my comments personal, they simply are directed towards individuals and organizations  "actions".  After 15 years of this names don't matter only their actions or lack of actions do. My only intention is to call out the person or persons responsible for the ACA not helping Indiana in one of the most important fights in the industry today.  If you were from Indiana and your livelihood was threatened i think you would be asking the same question.   Hopefully We will have some type of an answer this evening.

Rodney... All I can say is good luck. I have been there and done that. You will get the BS answers that they want you to hear. Or they will try to tell you that we all need to just get along. Hope you can get some answers but I just dont any actions that will happen. Wish ya the best and dont back down after the meeting cause thats when it counts.

Response from Brad Osswald one IDEFA legislative committee person read to the board and members in attendance tonight was that NADEFA got Dr. Davis to write the article and NADEFA lawyers were responsible for getting the Indy Star to print the response.

Bell,

I am not sure where this Brad gets his information because it is incorrect. The Dr Davis editorial is from the ACA's PR effort.  We had the exact editorial in our hands before it was even printed in the news.  If this was NADeFA's pr effort why would it be signed by the american cervid alliance at the bottom?

I am on the ACA media review committee along with counsel from many other states. We have been working closely with the PR firm and I will assure everyone that we have been working hard to try to combat the surge if negative articles coming out. The committee has been working on the Indy star article that you guys are talking about for a while now. There are others on deerfarmer on the committee if you would like to ask them .

This is the kinda s?&$ I am so sick of about Idefa. Nobody and I mean NOBODY on that board can tell the truth. (Except Jerry Bell) And they wonder why the membership is down to below 25% from where it was 3 yrs ago. And they wonder why nobody wants to join or donate. Now maybe some of the guys that say we should just get along with each other... I am saying BS!!!!I will say it again, I will NOT be a part of this kinda crap!!!

Yes Gary, Ryan Sabalow's own article connects the ACA with the Dr Davis IndyStar article. That's his own paper. I'm not sure what political games are being played by some on the IDEFA board but its sad their own members are suffering. After all, their members can read and find out the real truth. I am sure this revelation has been enlightening to those who want to know the source of the problems. On behalf of the ACA, I hope this whole conversation ends and we focus on getting our job done.

Gary

I think Ryan Slabolow is exposing his own true colors with that statement.

My Dad spoke with Brad after the board meeting and ask him why the statement was read to the board and inquired of its origins. I am not sure about all the facts but I will defend Brad and say it is likely because he is simply uninformed. I hope some will take the time to look him up and discuss the facts with him. It will be helpful to Idefa moving forward if he does have more knowledge. My head was about to explode when he said this to all those sitting in the meeting. The deer farmers in Indiana desperately need transperancy and any assistance we can get.

Thanks

Brad and Dad talked again today. Brad researched this and told Dad he now understands the ACA and their attornies were responsible for getting Dr. Davis articles published in the Star. The positive outcome of this discussion is that now and in the future IDEFA and the ACA will be supporting and assisting one another. Thanks to Brad,Dad, the ACA and all who are voluntarily giving their time and efforts to help our deer industry!

Bell,

Did rodney get any answers at the meeting on getting a board member on the aca calls as a rep and why they haven't been?

Not at the meeting. He had a situation come up and couldn't be there.

Re: Deer declining across Colorado and West, July 14 news story.

While it is unfortunate to read that wild deer populations are currently declining in Colorado, it is inaccurate to point to chronic wasting disease (CWD) as a significant factor in the drop.

In 2010, researchers at Colorado State University estimated CWD effects on mule deer population between 2006 and 2008. They concluded that CWD s effects seem to be sufficiently small that they can be omitted in estimating the influences of CWD on population growth rate.

Further, testimony offered by the Colorado Division of the Wildlife Research Center stated that at a population level it s been difficult to demonstrate any effect.

CWD is often used as a political and PR weapon against private deer farms, but it s important to understand that the disease is rare, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data, and that there are many other factors behind the decline in deer populations, such as weather and predation.
