Looking good Mike!! Just curious....why does he have two farm tags? Or are one of those a Dept. of Ag Tag? I know in Pa we have to have to forms of I'd on each deer too......one being a farm tag and two a Dept. Of Ag tag.......but our tags do not resemble the farm tag so that's the only reason I was curious.......hope he keeps growin big for you!

Dennis, Right now we need two tags. In Ia. we also have two forms of I'd on each deer One being # One being farm #. As of now we don't have too have Dept. Of Ag tag. I here we might have to use USDA tags pretty soon.

This year we are using # / farm# and a Iowa metal # tag.

And if the deer only has one ear (vinny) two tags are in that one.

He's comin on nice Mike. Can you guys use chips in your deer as a form of id in your state? Thats what i started doing here. The state wants 2 forms of id and dec wants 1. The kicker is...We cant use the farm tag as a state tag, So more or less we would need 3 tags. Thats just to much and to many holes in an animals ear. Overkill to say the least.

Thanks Mike,

No we can't use chips I wish we could.

We chip every Labrador we sell and people have been able to find there dog because of the chip. Chips can't lie.

The whole tagging issue is completely out of control. Farm tags, microchips, metal tags, plastic (CWD) tags, state tags, Federal RFID tags, and on and on. Christmas trees have less ornaments on them than some whitetails do.

This is one issue that should be easy to make standard throughout all the states.

FYI I have learned some stuff about those RFID tags/chips that is a little disturbing. Talk about big brother keeping an eye on everyone!

The tagging law has changed so much I am not even sure what is required right now in WI. I think it depends if your shipping to another breeder farm or a hunt ranch. A generic "farm tag" like can be bought at Fleet Farm Supply stores is fine for one ID form. However you can't have 2 tags with the same number being the same color. What happens if I have a white 4 and then buy a deer with a white 4? Removing a tag is illegal. I guess I can't buy a deer with a white 4 then.

Just venting, sorry!

Roger,

What if the deer rips the tag out do you replace it?

same # same color?

Our state doesn't recognize color.

Yes and the farm tag you speak off is what we have to have to keep the DEC happy and the two more official tags to keep the state happy.

You now have my full attention on the RFID as that is the other tag along with a chip that we use!

Roger is right about the chips/RFID tags.......after I heard the things that I have heard I wouldn't stick one in my deer.......just my opinion....they have too many ways to track our every move already!! The tags are out of control.....don't want to really hijack this thread but it sure is frustrating with all the tags amongst many other things they slap on us....

Like I say I am not positive what the latest and greatest laws are with tagging because they keep changing the rules so much. However I think they just say you have to replace a lost tag and make note of the reason on your annual census report to the state. But I don't think you have to replace it with the same color and number. I guess if you did, you maybe wouldn't have to report a lost tag since nothing has changed.

I think our latest rule goes like this...

If your moving to another breeder farm you need 2 tags of which only 1 must be "official" meaning one must be the metal tag, the RFID tag, a microchip of a certain number of digits, a state official tag, or a tag many refer to here as the CWD tag. These are all one of a kind tags issued by a government agency. However the state approved CWD tag has been made obsolete and we must replace them at our next whole herd testing.

The 2nd tag can be a generic tag such as purchased from Fleet Farm Supply stores. However no duplicate numbers and colors.

If your moving to a hunt ranch then they must BOTH be official tags.

This is all off the subject of antler growing, however many viewers to this thread are not deer growers and maybe if more general public folks knew just how much crap we go through they would see we are held to an extremely high standard.

A few new pictures of Rambeaux. Nice to see everyone's bucks growing. Doesn't matter how big they are now.

Awesome bucks Matt. You can count on seeing me (and probably Travis too) coming for a visit later in the summer. With you having 30 bucks growing, I know its going to be an awesome visit.
