Antlers not shedding

Has anyone had experience with cutoffs not shedding before new growth starts. I saw an article once that showed nasty antlers growing around a cutoff antler that made a big mess. we have one that is starting to bulge up underneath and it feels warm like antler growth under the cutoff. He is very tame and we have tried to pull off the old antler with a vised grip and they don't come off.

We have this with one buck. Seems like an annual event. They eventually pop, it just takes longer than all the others. For him, it seems like once the new growth starts it's path around the cutoff is just about the time they pop.

Happened to me a couple years ago. It was middle of May before one of mine went. I think I had fawns about the same time he finally shed. They will come off, but he'll definitely have a different look to him than he has in the past.

I tied to pull off cut off's once with vise grips myself. It didn't work. Two days later on April 27th, they fell off.

I just had a yearling buck shed his full antlers today....not cut off's.

I have two suggestions that I was about to try...

#1 take the feed from him for a couple days if possible. This may shock his system enough to casue him to drop.

#2 try darting him down. The act of tranquilizing the deer will usually lower their immune system. This may cause him to drop his sheds.

This is just my opinion and a couple ideas I was contemplating trying. Luckily he finally dropped on his own.

There's no argument here-stress sure does expedite the shedding of antlers.
