Breeder buck down

i have a 2.5 year old breeder buck that we found in very bad shape on Saturday. We thought he was dead until we got to him and saw an ear twitch. Cleaned him up and gave him steroids, B12, bo-se and penicillan. The next day he looked alot better. As we approached him, he tried to get up but couldn't.

He can move both his hind legs and can move his head and neck but cannot stand up. It looks like he cannot move either front leg. There is no visible sign of trauma.

I have been treating him with the same regime. He hasn't eaten or drank any water since Saturday. We have been feeding him water with a syringe.

Vet said give him 36 hours and see if he will respond. This morning he looked about the same. Is alert, moving his ears, moving his neck but still cannot get up. We gave him his meds and squirted water with a syringe in his mouth.

Not sure what else i can do. Any advice is appreciated.

I forgot to mention that we had really high winds the end of last week and some shade cloth tore. I am thinking it may have spooked the deer in that pen. I say that because i am thinking that he may have ran into the fence.

Dexamethasone or Banamine have antiswelling effects.

Dex is the preferred drug, b/c Banamine can worsen any ulcers or colitis that the deer might have in his intestines (from stress colitis).

Send a PM to Scott Heinrich for further advice.

Good luck.
