Here are the stoppers, I used the plastic from a laundry detergent jug to make these. You would only want to use the very flat side of the detergent jug if you were going this route. As you can see I wrote with a black sharpie the size of the stopper, 1/2, 2/3, and 1/3. In my opinion splitting a straw three ways isn't really necessary these days with the cost of semen being so low, the only time I might do it or suggest someone try it would be if they had a straw from an old sire that was really hard to come by. I would also make sure that the straws were packed with excellent quality semen. I will be completely honest, I did it for a guy in AL two years in a row with fairly poor success. I attribute that exclusively to the semen that was being used! I won't drop names, I used 6 straws from the same buck and same collection on another farm and split them twice (total 12 does) and only had two does take. In talking with a few other people they experienced similar results with this buck. I have split a handful of other straws three ways with success, I would say you could achieve somewhere in the range of 55-65% conception rates splitting good straws three times. So as I said I really don't think its worth it. I just assume administer two mature does with 1.25cc of PMSG and split a straw twice, that way you are more likely to get an extra fawn from each doe.
