I have a yearling buck that seems fine but he has drool coming out of both sides of his mouth he looks great otherwise i had ehd-blue toungue last year and did not see any of my deer do this the other deer in the pen act ok too.He seemed to be breathing a little harder than the rest when they were all running around in the pen i am wondering if it is pnumonia any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks.

if it was mine I'd guess EHD, every deer that had EHD last year the first sign was drooling, swollen mouth.

I have a doe that started doing the same thing today. Its just looks like saliva, no color or foam to it. We had a few deer with EHD last year with varying symptoms from swollen tonge and swollen feet, lethargic, to foaming from the mouth. I really dont think that what my do has is EHD.

I had another one with similar symptoms a couple years ago, and she ended up dieing from it. She also had drainege from her nose though. I took her to the vet and had a necropsy done on her. All that they could find wrong was that the intestine had an area on it that had something wrong and that there was fluid around the lungs.

There could be several things causing this. Bacterial infection, Something lodged in the mouth or throat. I plan on giving her antibiotics and Neo-Med in the water for an antibacterial.

the one thing i dont see is swelling at all. i lost over 20 deer last year from ehd and i didn't see this but i guess you dont see every thing that goes on in your pens i also thought maybe food impaction?i cannot be sure without darting and i hate to do this with this heat. i have seen food impaction before but usually i see swelling i talked to a fellow deer farmer and he said that he had one like this last year with the same simptoms and he did not do nothing to the deer and it did fine and never really got very sick. but i think i am going to start with the meds.

Dereck,

What was the outcome on your buck?

My doe isnt doing very good today. The saliva has been on and off and she has lost alot of weight. This whole time she hasnt acted like anything has been wrong and always meets me at the gate. But today she is deffinately not feeling good. Only symptoms have been drooling and loosing weight. stools are solid and I have wormed her twice in the last 2 1\2 weeks.

this time of year with drooling, weight loss, not acting right I'd treat it like EHD and hit em with Draxxin/Baytril/Dex/BovaSera combo NOW
