My question is I have a 3 1/2 yr old buck and a yearling buck they both have antlers this year is ok to keep in same pen or should I seperate???? Its a daddy son combo with a single doe (momma)

They will fight once the rut gets in full swing. I would either saw antlers on both or seperate. If you saw antlers they can still fight but the chances of serious injury are less.

I always put a older dominent buck in with my yearlings and he will make sure nobody else fights. The younger bucks no better than to mess with an older buck and the older buck doesn't allow any one else to fight. The ones that don't know any better learn quick. You must put them together while still in velvet so they can establish pecking order before the rut though.

What about 2 yr old buck in same pen with buck fawns from this summer ? The 2 yr old will have antlers sawed off.

I forgot that part i usaully saw off the older bucks antlers. So he doesn't hurt anybody to bad when they are misbehaving.

Jeff, that is how i would do it seems to work well for me.

a guy from MSU told me the other day that if you keep sawing antlers off,on a buck you think might get real heavy say year 4 or 5 then let him have his rack for what ever reason . his scull might not be strong enough for it .just a good bump and split his scull. from years before having a small rack and not building a strong head to hold it all together. if ya know what I mean. remember I am a new guy . But that guy was a vet. And he has seen that problem before.
