I just noticed my buck is limping and after looking at his leg i noticed a part of the black hoove is missing . He is not tame is there anything i can do to help him ? He is getting around and eating his food an grass . And is very healthy other then him limping around . I did not notice any blood . Will this heal in a few weeks or so . Anybody know how this might have happened ? I did notice him jumping up at the fence when wild deer came up to the fence could it happened from that mybe ? Thanks for everybodies help here .

MY first thought, are his hooves too long?? If they are, thats probably why it broke. Need to knock him out and trim them up. If you do tranq him, then I'd do something to keep it from getting infected. Other people on here would know better than I, as to what to give him. Otherwise, I'd just leave him alone and keep a close eye on him.

how long does it usually take for his hoove to grow back any idea ? thanks for you concern and helping . if you know anymore information it is greatly appreciated

He could have a cracked hoof and if left un treated could run into a lot of problems for you..........

My buck last year that had this problem was dog tame so I could just walk up and see it was cracked.......I had to have the vet out and we trimmed it up and gave him antibiotics and he eventually healed up ok......if you feel he may have this problem you may have to put him down.........I hate to tell you to do this if your not sure this is the problem..........
