Check out this watering device

I have installed 2 of these drinkers. They were both horse models. That being said the only difference in the two models is the plate that needs to be pressed to open the water valve. The wildlife model has a bigger plate that is perforated so the smaller mouth/nose of a deer can't slip off. I talked to my customer a few days ago to see how they are working, he said they have been trouble free so far. We have had many days around zero to single digits here with no issues. Looks to be a good product. I have been debating about trying one this summer, my only concern is if the deer would figure out how to press the plate down? Does anyone use drinkers with floats in them?

I used to have Ritchie water tanks with floats, and they had no trouble figuring out how to operate the float. I did away with them at some point because my electric situation wasn't working out too good, and couldn't keep them thawed without a light or submersible heater. This thing here looks to be the answer to all of that.

I've been using these for 3 years Now with little problems .the deer pick up on them pretty quick but they like to beat it up with there foot more than they like to use there nose on the pedal. But they will hold up

I was told that a rubber tire around the waterer (or a couple) was good protection from "beating"
