I had an "oops" fawn at the end of August, and wondered what the normal timeframe for a mature doe is to be able to be in condition to rebreed? I am assuming I will be pulling her out of my AI program this fall, but just wondering on what the turnaround is on this.

Thanks

She should breed back just fine. She may be a little later because of the fawn, but she shouldn't be any later than a week or ten days. I had a yearling doe deliver a fawn the last week of August two years ago. She was the first to deliver her fawns the following spring. Her youth definitely gives her an advantage.

I can not speak personally about AIing her this year. I guess that depends on your planned schedule. My opinion would be that anytime after November 15 would be fine. Sooner than that may be too early.

I hope this helps, GOOD LUCK !!

I had a doe deliver a fawn on the 1st of September last year. I pulled the fawn from her and she took to AI November 1st.

I had a 2 year old doe give birth to twins August 30th two years ago, I let her raise the fawns (one died at less than a week old), she had twins on May 31 the next Spring. I had several people tell me that dosent seem possible becuase she would still be nursing the fawn routinely, but it did indeed happen. I guess you can just never rule out anything with whitetails, they can really suprise you.

We routinely bottle raise all fawns after July. Normal weaning time for us in Texas in September 1, to allow maximum conception rates and to prevent more fawns born after July. God bless and good luck

Thanks for replies, I know with cattle they'll usually rebreed in 45-90 days, even with calf nursing, but deer arent cattle!
