Hey gang - I have a 4 week old buck fawn in the pen that is in self-destruct mode. He has chewed his tail half-way off. We caught him 2 days ago, gave him a little banamine, some antibiotics/probiotics and cleaned it, trimmed the hair away from the end of it, trimmed back the skin and tissue that was hanging down, and managed to get a bandage to stay on until about an hour ago. He is chewing on it and has it all bloody again. I'll get the picture uploaded in a little bit.

Any suggestions? (We have changed his name to "Bob");)

Robbie...Could he be Bord...Pigs chew when bord... If so maybe a hay net with alfalfa something he needs to work at...

Could he need something in his diet??? Try a mineral lick

What if you try popsicle sticks with wrap...Sorry just trying to think here...

I never had one chew himself... Best of luck

Robbie,

We have several fawns (the ones that are doe raised) that have half of a tail. I thought it was weird too, so I figured out it is the does that are biting the tails half off and then the fawns go in later and lick them and chew on them. I have a few fawns that are 2 months old with half of a tail. They look clean and it usually doesn't get infected so I left them alone.

Maybe it is not them same thing, but its a little weird that they would do that...
