We have a fawn that caught its head in the fence, lucky enough we were there when it happened. But not in time for the fawn.It cant use it"s back legs! if we hold it up by its tail,it will try to pull away(it"s front legs are ok)but when we let go,it falls over.we pinched the skin on the back leg,and it felt it,and it moves its tail.it eats ok,and goes "potty"if she was junk,we"d put her down, but she"s out of a Tonto daughter! Any ideas??? Please??

Think thats what the vet gave it.were just not sure if we should keep trying to make it move around,or should it lay still?

I would let her be for now. You could be doing more harm by holding her up and trying to get her to move. Put her somewhere that she is comfortable in and don't mess with her. Time will be your biggest helper. Good luck

dexamethasone ASAP

Bruce is right on the money. Exercising it won't help. Most likely make things worse. I say give the Dex and let it rest. A follow up shot in 2 days might be needed. Some movement tells me you should have a great chance of recovery based on our previous experience here.

Sorry, but I feel I need to say something......."junk"!? I don't think any fawn or deer for that matter should be considered "junk". Poor thing....

Many times the problem you have described is damage to the spine or nerves in the spine from the trauma associated with the injury. This causes swelling which needs to subside before healing can begin. Continuous motion will aggrevate the injury and make the swelling continue. Allow as much "cage rest" as possible for a couple of days. It is also good to administer an anti-inflamatory medicine to help reduce the swelling.
