Well... I am a newbie to the forum and deer farming.  We are expecting to take delivery of our two (2) doe fawns in the coming weeks and are extremely excited.  While recently working in our pen I have noticed quite a few ticks.  Burning is not really an option as our pen is fairly well wooded and it would kill all the trees.  I am trying to be proactive and wanted to go ahead and ask the question... what can we put on our fawns for tick (and possibly flea) protection?  I've read about ivomec and permethrin but am unsure if I can put it on fawns, dosages, etc.

2nd Question - Does anyone know of a granule that I can use in a walk behind spreader to minimize ticks that is safe for fawns?

Last Question - We also have yellow flies this time of year (in Florida).  Is there a product that I can apply to the fawns to help minimize yellow files?

Thanks for your anticipated help!

You could try to spray permethrin if it's feasible.

You could install some permethrin drip lines but this would not help their underside.

I'm an advocate of burning for ticks. I didn't get a good burn in my preserve this winter and ticks are substantially worse this year. I mow* (I can mow up to 6" trees) around some mature trees in a few areas I'm thinning by burning in the summer. It it were mine I'd hire a skid steer with a mulcher to beautify my pens then burn them.
