I had my first buck fawn born this morning and plan to tag and vaccinate this evening. Wanting to make sure I have everything ready and giving the correct vaccinations before hand. This is what I have Shock Effect Fawn Paste, 3cc Bar Guard orally, Survive-D 4cc orally, Vit B Complex 2cc SubQ, Vitamin E-AD 3/4cc SubQ, C&D Antitoxin 3/4cc SubQ, Invomec Plus .1cc SubQ. Is it alright to give all these at one time or should they be split up. Also read that vaccinations at this age have no effect. Any suggestions thank you.

My suggestion is to talk to Dr. Clifford Shipley at the UofI in Champaign and ask him to send you his vaccination checklist. Best wishes.

You really should give 1cc bose or selenium!! I dont think a healthy fawn needs all them vitamins but thats just my opinion, dont forget Iodine on bellybutton , shock effect paste is great!! Good Luck!!!!!

Thanks for the advice, apparently I need to get BO-SE from my vet and that won't happen till Monday. What is that vaccination for and will it hurt to wait until Monday to give?

Yea I think most on here would agree that bose is a must have!!!! It prevents white muscle disease, bose is the brand name I use but its selenium and Im sure there are other brands just as good! It does come from a vet but Get it in them sub q as soon as you get it and Im sure youll be OK!!!!

good luck!!!!

We always give 1cc of bo-se, 3cc of CD antitoxin, 3cc of ecolizer, a good probiotic (about 1/2 the calf dose) and .1cc of draxxin especially if it has been cold or wet when they were born. I usually don't give the vitamin A&D or a B vitamin unless the mom was in bad shape or the fawn appears very weak. I also keep some colostrumn on hand just in case it doesn't look like moms been taking care of them. We try to pull fawns for bottle feed ing at about 18 hours old give or take a few. Coat that umbilical cord with iodine also. Rick

Thanks for the help, I have been keeping a close eye on the fawn and he looks to be getting feed 3-4 times a day but for they seem very short in duration, maybe 5-10 seconds then the mama walks off and he follows. Also today i noticed he was breathing very fast and short with his mouth half open. His temp is 103.3 and its fairly warm today around 90. His gums are wet and his skin didn't seem to tent. He has been eating fresh dirt like crazy and seems normal other than the fast breathing. He was laying in the sun i moved him to the shade. Should I be concerned with his breathing or could it be from the heat?

Do you here him crying for her?? If so you may need to bottle feed! Some does arnt good moms, kinda like some woman I know LoL !!!!! oops did I just say that %^&**

Anyway the heat will make them breathe heavy like you described, Keep a close eye !!Also look in his eyes, if there bright thats good, if there hazy sad looking then maybe sick, just my observations!! Good luck!!!

I have not heard or seen him cry for her. His eyes are bright and clear. I have a tendency to worry alot, but when he does get up and walk around the mama will stay laying and not acknowledge him or when he does find her she will walk away and just keep walking the fenceline as he follows. The heavy breathing seems to have went away. How many times should she typically feed/stimulate him a day? Thanks agian

I was the same way! If he is not being fed you will hear him yelling! If you feel his belly it should feel full! I had a doe that would not feed the baby when I was around, all deer are diffrent but as a rule they feed 4-6 times in a 24 hour period, some more some less, If you keep a good watch you should be fine, like watch for scours or the runs, clear eyes, full bellies, not crying, have fun!!!!
