I usually wait a little longer to move fawns, but i have some buck fawns born early May that are sold and going home tomorrow night. I was just wondering if anyone would know the approximate weight of one at weaning. I notice the already look like they are 2/3 the size of the mother, they are just not filled out, so i would have to guess they are at least 60 lbs. I figure if they are 60-75 lbs. they would do alright on 1 cc of an 8:1 bottle of xylazine/telezol mix, I started mixing telezol on fawns because i just dont know about straight xylazine anymore, I took the safe capture course and learned how it can really stress their system compared to the mix, so i mixed a little telezol on some fawns this past feburary, and the mixture seemed pretty successful, althought them fawns were at least close 100 lbs or more by then. So any thoughts? thank you.

I will be darting fawns also and was wondering if they told you at the safe capture course that 8:1 ratio was the right amount of mix for fawns cause I was using a 5:1 ratio on my 2 year old deer earlier this year for TB & B testing.

actually 5:1 would work for you on your fawns, just less of it than for an adult, maybe 3/4 cc or 1cc at the most,, I am only mixing mine weak (8:1) because the fawns are still so young and small this time of year, wont take as much to get them down because of their mild temperment.
