Hi

We have a month old Fawn who can not stand.

She Can move her neck and face. Ears are alert, Bowel movements are perfect. She tries to move her front legs and sometimes kicks with her back legs. She was mother raised for the first month now she is in the house drinking on the bottle (thank goodness). We have given her a CC of Nuefloor, Vita B, Vita E and Pig Iron with no improvement. Any ideas on what to do. She also has been bitten by Ants one eye is swollen and has puss in it.

Thanks

Lindsey Lewis

Lindsey,

My guess is the fawn hit the fence. I would give her some banimine for pain and some dexamethozone for the swelling.

If you really feel you have a selenium deficiency give her some BO-SE but that usually shows up with the animal walking on its front knees and staggers.

I agree with Jack. It may take a few weeks and a bunch of rehab to have motor function return. I have rigged up a few slings/cradles that you can set them in and the animal can try to kick around. Also aqua therapy is great as the animal can have free flowing mobile motion. Good luck.

Just imagine a fawn cradle just like the ones for tagging fawns. Set the animal in the cradle suspended from a track. You must set the height so there legs just barley touch the ground. As motor function returns you should start seeing movement in the forward region of the body. I personally like the aqua therapy. a large water tub is perfect. Its very low impact. Just make sure you let the water warm up first before using.

Keeping the legs mobile is important. Work them around massaging them a few times a day. Warm compresses help as well.
