Fawn wormers

I have a 5 week old fawn that I believe may have worms. He use to be my biggest bodied fawn but is now kind of pot bellied, his hip bones are starting to show, and his face is looking much skinnier each day. What type of wormer and at what dose is safe for fawns?

You should take a fecal sample to your veterinarian making sure to correctly diagnose which worms, if any, you are dealing with...as it may be another diagnosis all together. I have had a recent issue with tapeworms, symptoms being the ones you stated. Thought it was just the consistant 106 degree heat until I lost a 30 day old fawn and sent into TVMDL for necropsy for accurate diagnosis. Ended up administering a Droncit (brand name) injection to everyone at their evening feeding. Had a complete turn around 12 hrs later and everyone is doing amazing now. Anyhow, not sure if that helps or not, but it is another avenue to keep in mind.

The fawn would only eat twice yesterday, 6 ounces each time and he ate the same this morning. I took a fecal sample to the vet this morning, just waiting to hear back from him. Thanks for the info, I will reply with the results later.

The vet said the sample was negative and there were no worms. What else could be causing these symptoms?? The fawn seems to be getting really weak and will not stand for a bottle anymore????

I'm surprised that they only tested for worms.....usually they will run many tests to determine what the animal has...........of course maybe that is all you requested. i would have had them do a complete testing on the fecal sample so you can know how to treat ..........u have to make sure the fawn does not get dehydrated or the game is over........could be many things that are causing it to not want to eat......what does the stool look like? I have a fawn that was the same way and my vet gave me a shot of steriods to give to it and it has been eating better ever since....not 100% but better....but my fawn I believe is fighting coccidia.......will no for sure in a couple of days.......we will just keep on battling it!! good luck!

He just drank 7 ounces, that makes 13 so far today, I will see if I can get him to drink some water at tonights feeding, I'm taking him to the vet in the morning. They said they did a complete fecal test, whatever that means, and the results were negative.

Thanks again for the help
